Barred Rocks!!

they are on the larger end.

here is a new pick of some of mine that we got in April.

They so far are pretty consistent layers, but with 4 laying we re seeing quite a difference in their eggs even though they are all the same age. I get from an off white to medium brown egg, some of them have a speckling to them, some are really small and others are extra large. Not sure if that's normal or not. The Rooster is the mixed flock protector and is kinda funny, he is pretty good unless you wear the wrong shoes out in the corral or in the coop, he will try to attack them if you do lol. There are 2 of us that deal with the flock, me he wouldn't dare think of coming after but the other lady if she gets after the hens he thinks about it.
They are pretty easy to train, garden isn't protected and they learned as they like their treats, if we get in the garden we don't get them so they stay out of it pretty much.

Feed wise they are free ranged and get supplemented with fermented feed with garlic added to it. Treats are usually diced up fruit or veggies as they love them. will play tug o war with the duck for lettuce though lol

We started our chicken family in May. We have 3 Rhode Island Reds and 7 Barred Rocks. We are enjoying raising these chickens.
Here are some pictures of the Barred Rocks

tell mine that, they don't seem to follow any of the rules lol. Mine just matured and been laying for about 2 weeks now

My Barred rocks started flying around our yard chasing eachother and one got over the wall. -_- Luckily we got her, but we had to clip their wings. my dad knew how, but im still a little cautious about when the babies need theirs clipped here in the next few weeks. anything i should wait for or lookout for?

Not sure, ours aren't clipped, but they have 5 acres of pasture, a corral, the ditch bank and the yard to run around in too. When they started that kind of antics what I did was add in more protein and grabbed the broom, they stopped trying to leave the property. The duck has taught them to fish outta the ditch though. got one barred rock that got really good at it and the others let her fish then try to take it away lol.
