Barred Rocks!!

Not sure, ours aren't clipped, but they have 5 acres of pasture, a corral, the ditch bank and the yard to run around in too. When they started that kind of antics what I did was add in more protein and grabbed the broom, they stopped trying to leave the property. The duck has taught them to fish outta the ditch though. got one barred rock that got really good at it and the others let her fish then try to take it away lol.
ppffftttt typical chickens XD let her have it they said, it'll be fun they said XD

My Barred rocks started flying around our yard chasing eachother and one got over the wall. -_-  Luckily we got her, but we had to clip their wings. my dad knew how, but im still a little cautious about when the babies need theirs clipped here in the next few weeks. anything i should wait for or lookout for?

Here's a good video to help if anyone needs to clip their wings.

I have an 8 month old that is quite smaller than the rest and she has yet to develop comb and wattles. Is she a runt? Will she ever mature? She acts totally normal. Help!!

Maturation can certainly be variable with some maturing more quickly than others. Also, some may have smaller combs and wattles than other, yet still reach POL. I've experienced this myself.

Is she breeder stock or hatchery?

I think hatchery. She is a lot smaller than everyone else and doesn't really have a comb or wattles at all and it isn't red...I can try to get a pic.

My barred is the head hen and she is a benevolent dictator, protecting our timid Easter Egger when other picked her tail clean. She's willful to me, always putting up some resistance when I try to corral them back into the run or bawking at me with disapproval or objection. She is also a prodigious layer... a very hard worker. I have no regrets about Oreo.

Oreo is a great name! And I know what you mean about their personality traits and productivity. My "top" hen is a Barred Rock who lays eggs 6 days per week on average, and here eggs are HUGE in spite of her fairly petite frame. Yesterday she laid an egg that weighed 2.39 ounces.

I had 2 that raised baby chicks we took home at 8 weeks, do get an occasional cranky one though, have 3/4 wanting to brood mid winter and they aren't a year old yet. They make good surrogates and from what i'm seeing with mine will be good brooders, gotta get rid of a baby roo though lol
