Of my four hens, all 14 months old, one is not laying. She did lay a few very tiny eggs about six months ago but nothing since then. She is the same breed as the others, eats the same organic layer feed, but her vent is kind of messy looking. She also spends a lot of time by herself and is the largest of all the birds. What could be wrong with Paula? Advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I wanted to say

Is the vent messy from poop? Some hens are just messy. You should try cleaning poop off, it can burn their skin; or trim the feathers around the vent.

I'm not an expert on the medical stuff, but maybe internal layer?

Is a vet an option?

Answer these questions and like the others said post in the emergency forum.

Oopps, so sorry to not have introduced myself. Thank you all for all the warm welcomes, am happy to have joined the forum. Will repost my question in the emergency/disease/injuries, thanks for the heads up 4-H Mom.

Paula's belly is swollen and distended. I devised a steam bath for her and am hoping to get some movement. Will probably keep her indoors for the night with a heat lamp. Thanks for all your input and warm welcomes.
