Basque Hens, Euskal Oiloa (MYSTERY BREED !)

Awesome. I am so glad you agree! I just let my birds out free range after having them in their breeding pens, and they are the first ones to run up to me when I go out to the barn! Where are you located? How long have you had them? I`d love to hear more.

Hey Skeffling, as soon as I read this I thought of you. There is someone out here with them too, I was thinking about getting some chicks from him but decided to hold off

WOW! I read this and got so excited. I actually studied abroad in Euskal Herria (the Basque Country) in Northern Spain. It is a unique landscape that reminded me more of Ireland than of what I pictured Spain (deserts, sand, windmills...etc.). The seven providences in the Basque Country has wanted to split from Spain for a LONG TIME. I think their history is very mysterious... They have their own (very unique language, which is difficult to learn) and have a deep celtic influence.

I lived near Bilbao, so not too close to any livestock. I wasn't nearly as interested in chickens when I was there, as i am now...

I would LOVE to learn more about these chickens! I never knew they had their own breeds!

Interesting info Dvanderslik! Sounds like a really interesting area. Makes me want to go and visit there. I'd love to see these birds scratching around in the back yards. They are awesome foragers!

Replied Skyline! That is awesome you have so many Euskal Oiloa! We are downsizing here but I have been shipping eggs since Jan all over Canada and are making sure when and where we move I am keeping my Basques.

Hey Chickie, you should gte some of these if you want friendlies that lay well. Barney is not that far from you. I sent him them last year when he was getting black Penedesencas and wanted "anything else interesting" I had and he loves them. He kept the Euskal Oiloas and let the pennies go I think. Great to see you on here Flock Mistress!

I'm didn't get it and sent another message. I'm wondering if its because I'm new on here? I was just wanting your permission to put the information you've aquired about the Basque on my website. I've not been able to find hardly info about the basque.
