Bathing a chick?

Sevin is still used "off label" by most poultry keepers. The reason for the ban was safety concerns rising from over use of the product. It can still be used, with caution (as you should with any pesticide) and in moderation. Some other options recommended by BYC members would be Permethrin 10 or Poultry protector.

Sevin will stay in your eggs and in your meat.

That's why I avoid it. I do like to eat both of those things.

Thanks Aoxa!
No problem.

Here's how I administer my treatment to the flock of 140~

When using it as a dust bath for them to keep care of themselves, mix it with black earth. Makes a perfect dust bath.

ETA: Just so we're clear, mix Wood Ash with black earth, not sevin. :)

Quote: I am catching up to your 140!! right now i have 70 outside, and currently 40 inside. only 20 more, and if my hens keep hiding nests then brooding on them and surprising me with chicks three weeks later, it wont take long!
since i dont have a kiddie pool i will have to put it in their favorite dust spots used daily, lol
but i cant do that today because it rained!!

Not the right season to buy the kiddie pools, but when it's spring/summer they are really cheap at wal-mart.

I don't even know how many I have to be honest. Last count it was over 110 grown birds, and I have quite a few chicks. Roughly 30-40, and still hatching. I sell them off occasionally too. They move too fast to count!

Quote: i know that! Im just estimating, and i know im saying what i have on the low side.
(un) fortunetly for the sake of too many chickens, i can not hatch for another two months.

I'm trying very hard not to hatch any more. I have one egg in the incubator left to hatch, and I'm done until the end of February. Don't you let me hatch anymore. I will blame you ;) LOL

I am going to have to try to count them some time!! Especially that I need to get breeding pens ready!
