I know I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures. The rain could've held off about 20 minutes longer so we could get through the last installment of kiddie golf school for my 5yr old though!
We got NOTHING in the storms. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Not even enough rain to make it worth my garden's while. Bristol got hamered though.

OMG how precious! Freida looks like she's a great momma and the baby is just SO precious!

I am really enjoying having the window open again! I didn't even realize it was going to rain this much today until I saw the radar at around 10am. I hasn't started here yet. That stinks that the rain didn't hold off for your son's kiddie golf school. It'll be good for our gardens though.

We got some heavy rain and some wind but NOTHING like Bristol and Litchfield or even East Hampton (the next town over from us)

Yeah!!!! Great news & Pics!! I know you're already exhausted running from bator to coop every 2 minutes! Isn't it exciting though?

It IS exciting, but I got very little sleep last night. There is a nap in my near future.

I am so happy for you! I think that I may let one of my broodies hatch a few eggs since I need more chickies. Thank you so much for sharing, and keep us updated on how the chicks do. I did notice something curious tho. The chick to the far left in the last picture is marked strangely. Was it the camera angle, or is he/she different from the other chicks? As far as I know, no other roosters got into the pen with my Silver Spangled Hamburgs. The only possibility that I can think of is that one of my hens had escaped into the pen with my EE's a while back. I didn't figure that she had been in there long enough to make a difference. It will be interesting to see. Anyhoo, congrats again and please keep us posted!

I'm SO glad you mentioned that chick's coloring, I was going to ask you about that. She IS marked differently from the others. I thought that maybe it was just because she hatched first and was fluffed out a little more, so she appeared different, but...I guess not! It'll be interesting to see what comes of her. I'll keep you updated, she sure is cute!
I've still got 2 under the broody and 2 in the bator that I haven't given up on, but no pips yet.

I'm so happy that you checked in, I LOVE my new babies!!! Thanks again for the wonderful eggs!

Final report on the Silver Spangled Hamburg eggs:

The remaining four eggs (two in the bator and two under the broody) failed to hatch. One under the broody was a quitter probably around day 9 or so,as I suspected.
The remaining three were perfectly developed, but all three had failed to absorb the egg sac to varying degrees. So sad and mystifying that they quit so late in the game.

I gave Freida a second baby this morning (b/c I'm keeping two chicks and adopting out three). After I stole the quitters from under her to candle and eggtopsy, I took the curiously marked chick (SSH x EE?) out of the brooder and brought her to Freida. I watched the three of them for a while to be sure there would be no issues and they all got along famously!
Oh, and I named them Sybil and Greta. Sybil is the one who mysteriously changed from SSH to a mixed breed while in the bator. Greta is Esther's hatchling. I wanted her to have a German/Dutch sounding name given her heritage.

I've got five beautiful new chicks and had a wonderful time documenting it here!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement!
