Battery hen trouble breathing

Extremely lucky but I live about 3 miles away from the best avian vet in the county. A total of three came out today which is fantastic, funnily enough they where flirting with the males through the fence. One of the vorwerk hens tried to fight soon after, bless them.

I just went on the Internet. Since I live in the uk there's a national charity called BHWT (British hen welfare trust) found a number put my order in and then went to a collection point to pick them up. Maybe there's maybe there something similar near you?

I am so glad to hear she is doing well, along with the other ex bats. I sincerely hope they end up having a wonderful (and social) life, and I believe they will!

You are wonderful for taking them in. I didn't know about Ex Battery Hens until after I got my second batch of chicks. Learning about them has changed me profoundly. I eat almost entirely vegan now, except for the eggs from my own happy chickens. I just don't think that animals should suffer so we can eat them. I'm starting to venture off topic and possibly into material that is not appropriate for these forums, so I'll stop. I am just so grateful you have taken them in and have dreams of doing the same some day.

Sorry micstrachan I didn't realise you messaged. I've actually gone the same as you, though am still looking into the ethics of eating the eggs from a happy flock, seems to be a grey area in veganism.
Anyway I hope your well and manage to get some ex batts someday.

I just wanted to post an update on the ex bat. She's done really well made a full recovery and the tylan soluble antibiotic worked a treat. She'll be re-introduced to the others when the weather pics up.
I'll attach a photo of her. Thanks for the support.
