Battery Hens

much props to you. i think that battery raising of any animals is just wrong. now granted i keep my chicks in a brooder cage during the summer but i have pens or make them when i need to. much props much props i want to find a place around here that has them but most of the birds here are in the big broiler houses not really egg layers like those poor girls but still mistreated in my opinion

Like I said, I can't figure out how to get a pic on here. Just imagine 1 comet & 2 RIR's, naked, red butts & naked necks. Feathers pretty much disheveled & combs almost white. Breast bone really prominent. Nice & calm, sweet birds. Will get some more tomorrow. Aren't you from Texas, a big agricultural state? I would think that there are egg factories by you, no? None her on Long Island. Just alot of farmers with free-ranging hens. Will let you know how they go. Molting season is upon us so hopefully their bodies are up to it!

Its one of those things that I can barely think about. Its my one genuinely zero tolerance thing, I just wont eat eggs unless I know where they come from. Just wont, not in restaurants, nowhere. I am kind of annoying about it. But its the one thing I allow myself to be absolutely militant about.

Next on my list is pork, here in NC we have a lot of hog farms, and the way they live is terrifying. Im not as crazy as I am about eggs, but its close.

I am happy to eat animals, I would just prefer they werent tortured first. Did you know pigs are smarter than dogs? My goal is start raising a couple of little feeder pigs each year on my land so I can rest easy breakfast wise...

Thanks for taking the time to dig that up for me. I was unfamiliar with the term, but know precisely what is meant now.

This is something I'm definitely going to look in to. I look at my girls every day and think how lucky we both are. They for the wonderful life I give them, and me for the pleasure of their company. I'd love to give an abused bird the chance to experience this kind of life before they pass on. Maybe a way to let them know that not all humans are evil.

I know we have a lot of members in the Spokane/Eastern Washington area. If any of you know of where I might adopt one of these poor little girls, please let me know. Terrie??? Any ideas?
