"Her pups." Bem dropped his head and growled in pleasure, enjoying the spike of fear that scurried across Astrid's face. 

Kofi staggered back, the revelation hitting him like a blow to the stomach. "You can't have her pups!" he protested. 

Obi froze and blinked a few times as Bem's words sunk in. He glanced at his brother and added,"Yeah! And even if you wanted to, you have to go through me."

With her yawn interupted, Ash sprung back by impulse as the new comer crashed through the bush. "Hey!" She barked

Candis kept her eyes on the dogs up ahead, ears shoved forward trying to pick up on what they were doing

Bem tossed his head back and laughed, and a chorus of yips and barks erupted somewhere off in his territory. "You foolish pups," he said, making the "pups" sound like an insult. "Astrid's offspring are as much as mine as they are her's."

Obi growled. He had enough of Bem's games and took step forward and spat,"I suggest you leave now, mutt."

Astrid snorted a bitter, half laugh. "I'm not handing over my pups to you," she told him.

Ash frowned at the mention of the other female, but hid it almost as soon as it apeared

As she neared the other dogs, Candis slowed to a brisk trot. Her fur along her back bistled slightly when she saw Bem, a low growl rising in her throat

Duke looked away from them, hiding his expression. "Yes, but she said she was leaving."

"Leaving?" Ash repeated, now utterly confused as to what was going on

Candis came to a slow halt behind the group of dogs, trying to figure out what was happening
