Bay Area BYCers!

I never saw a chicken in Berkeley either.
When my grandma was alive, she lived there. And if you walked across the street, you were in Albany.
My other grandma, when alive, lived in Piedmont, are there any chickens there?!!

Man, a black australorp, that is so tempting!!

very cool to hear about so many chickens in Berkeley and Oakland.

I have already got my chicks ordered for this spring, and am at my limit or I will be illegal. (and we wouldn't want to do THAT!

chickens in Piedmont? I had a professor at Cal State who lived in Piedmont, and would bring the blue and green eggs from his EE's to class. The raccoons kept killing the chickens, and he was getting frustrated, so maybe those were the only chickens in Piedmont.

There are lots of chickens in Berkeley--and more to come if I have anything to do with it! I do a lot of walking and hear clucks all over the place. I've even seen free-rangers out on the street in one case. Mine are in my front yard--and I live on a busy street. you wouldn't believe how many people walk by and ask for info, wanting to start their own flocks. The best thing is looking out my window, seeing someone walk by, hunched over, tired, cranky or whatever stop, pause and beam when they see my ladies. A lot of older folks and immigrants say that it reminds them of chickens they kept when they were kids, and they're a real hit with the stroller set, too.

Greetings Ms. Orp,

Recently, I have been very busy gathering fresh eggs

Two weeks ago, I finally started a family spending budget. Human spending needs some control, but family pet spending is pretty out there...3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 horse, 2 indoor birds, 1 fish tank and 3 pullets and 1 cockerel is enough for any insane family. Lucky for me, my pullets really starting laying about a month ago, so last week I put my desire for new chicks on hold for another year or two.

I have already started building a 4 chicken condo/tractor unit that I was planning for the new chicks, now I have more time to get-around-to-it and use it for my existing flock for their vacations in the larger part of our backyard (pics of their new vacation condo digs will make the BYC page deadline I hope). I also need to add pics of all the other family pets.

I took a look at your updated BYC page, very nice! I need to get back to work on mine...2 weeks and counting.

Tell me about YOUR new flock additions

Livermore Feed and Grain is a good place for food, scratch and I think they get chicks too. I got my chicks from the now defunct Ranch Hag Hens in Petaluma which is a BUMMER so I'll be looking around for pullets.

thanks boo! It looked better before I tried to move things around. Now pic is missing and weird things are happening. I'll get it together this week.

I like your page, too, especially tree chick's method for climbing to higher places.
