Bay Area BYCers!

I've had chicks hatch and not seen an egg before 10 to 11 months.

There's a big hatch of quail on Sept 1st that I'm joining in on. I set 40 eggs day before yesterday and then yesterday started to collect for the 1st and only got 2 eggs!

I swear it's a conspiracy. They get spoiled and don't want to share, so quail and chickens hold out.

I forgot to mention I have a broodie FBCM. I tried and tried to break her, but maybe she'll be the one that can hatch out FBCMs and SPPRs for me. Thought about tossing a couple of Silkie and Fav eggs under her, but then I looked at her and figured those would be smashed for sure. Should name her Bertha Butt.

Actually I hope she keeps going. I gave her 10 eggs yesterday. Mostly FBCM and SPPRs. Hopefully she'll do a better job than I've been doing this year.

I had 3 of my Game hens go broodied this summer and they are great mom's. Hoping they start back to laying soon as the chicks are getting big and so pretty. They are mixes, but I kept a few for layers. Some they hatched out were from my Olive Eggers and EEs that I bred to my FBCM so I can't wait to see what they lay as far as size and color.

Hello My Bay Area Chicken Comrades.....

I haven't posted or even been on BYC in a while as life has gotten nuts.

I am looking for advice from my community in what I should do with my 12 - 1 year old chickens in the prime of their laying......

I have to move out of my house and will have to rent somewhere for a long while. I will probably have to go up towards the Roseville area and moving is stressful enough without trying to find someone willing to let me keep my chickens.

What would ya'll recommend I do with my chickens? Is there anyone that is willing to take them and not eat them? That was my original plan. They are my pets..... but they are noisy and renting in a new area is so difficult with my peeps.

I have have a nice mix of very nice chickens and having to get rid of them is killing me.

Any suggestions or adoption opportunites? I am hesitant to give them away too, because of all the horror stories I have heard with disease and integration issues but I sort of don't have a choice right now.

Thanks... Ali

selling on craigslist is a good option, you can also post an auction here and specify local pickup only. You'll need to have all the breed names and ages in the posts. Sorry you are having to go through this, it's heartbreaking. The other thing is, if it were me, only sell them in pairs or sets of 3, that way wherever they go, they will have a familiar buddy to be with during integration.

Thanks Cheryl,
I knew Wynette did but this lady doesn't do eggs & only needs a pullet & has an extra cockerel up for grabs I think........All Black.
I get my new Exchequer chicks in the morning. I am excited.

Time for me to send my Barnevelder cockerels to a new place. Does anyone know of someone who is breeding Barnies and might want a second roo? Two of the boys are really gorgeous. The other two are more pet quality because of a broken beak on one and a crooked tail on the other. Otherwise, their coloring is fantastic. Really nice yellow legs, and no rogue redness in the neck and chest. They're sweethearts, but it's time for them to go. Please let me know if there are any Barnie flocks out there.
Thanks!

I wanna go to sleep, but I have 2 chicks out from my hatch and one of my BCMs is actually trying to hatch for me. His zip was weird, so I think he was in there a little off center and now that he's zipped and pushing, he is huge. Can't sleep till he's out. I'm too nervous and excited. These and the next hatch are probably all that I have left after losing my roos and I need to have these lines covered. For a change I actually hope it's a roo, so I have a Davis roo again. He looks so twisted in there. Has a leg out over his head, head still tucked and a wing out. OMG ...gotta keep my eyes open.

Time to go watch some more.
