Kim I so enjoyed hatching your quail that I have ordered more. A lady I met at the Delta Poultry Meetup group a couple of weeks ago was telling me she raises quail just for the eggs to eat & she puts them in salads. Then my son, Aaron, mentined how great it would be to pickle them. I pickle regular chicken eggs & he can never wait for the pickling to get all the way through & starts eating them before they are done.....LOL The quail eggs would probably onlt take a couple of days to cure they are sooo small. The guy I ordered the eggs from from N.C. is the sweetest . He called & talked to me a long time about raising quail. He has 3,000. He uses Turkey Poult food. It's really high protien. He said he has a neighbor that uses his quail eggs for her catering business but he is primarily a restaurant meat supplier & does his own processing.
The guy in Concord that I bought Aaron's new pheasants from has Courtunix quail too, but the small brown ones. He skins his when he processes. Is that what you do??
I wish I had know you wanted something from the Bay Area (Lemon Drop). Maybe I could have picked him up on my travels yesterday. I was on the road from 9 a.m. til afternoon........LOL
Well, I am off to clean & refill water bottles in the front porch. We are working on a possible new system, yet again, so I won't have this to do every morning.....LOL. I ended up hatching out 8 of Claude & Sophies (Jeremy's trio I bought) Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks & I had one from the week before that is already showing color on it's wings. Sophie lays the darkes blue egg so I am concentrating on her right now.
