Bay Area BYCers!

That's what I was thinking. Just not sure what to do about it.

Edward can be noisy, but not to badly so. He lived with my black Silkie roo until I lost him, so just weird that anything would happen to him now. He's not eating like he usually does, but he is eating and drinking.

I wonder if he'sd be alright if I put him in something that kind of held him together, like a narrow box.

That would possibly work as well, I'm trying to think of other things that might be making him this way. I'm thinking though if it started with the limp and nothing else...maybe he is just saving his energy for feeling better, thus not eating as much.

Poor baby. I keep checking him and he's getting a little bugged. Just stares at me like I'm a pain. He has plenty of food til morning so I'll try to leave him alone and let him rest. I just get paranoid that I'm going to check him and he'll be dead.

On another note I decided not to be surprised as much and tried candling a few eggs. I found an SPPR that had pipped really low and died and one of the Marans x Game did the exact same thing. Only 2 other SPPRs look like they may have something, but my batteries are low, so left them just in case. The rest were completely clear, but one and it had a bloodring.

I need to find something to help wth fertility. First I was getting nothing to hatch and now I have blank eggs. Not good.

Kim this time of year fertility is at an all time low. Too much molting and less hours of sunlight, so don't beat yourself up. Extra protein will help through the molt, I'm in the same boat with my breeders!

Maureen you are so sweet and thank you for such kind words of praise. I just like everyone else on this thread, love to spoil our babies. As far as pets go I've been blessed with really awesome dogs but never thought I would become so attached to my flocks. My layers are my favorites because I get to visit with them a few times a day. When I go to the ranch, again only 5 minutes from the house, but much of my time is spent on cleaning, feeding etc and I really don't take enough time just loving-them-up. I do however take time to study them. I'm trying really hard to learn as much as possible so i can do a good job in breeding my flocks. My porcupine rooster, Jake, I know is so grumpy, I have one broody and the other 3, well they are molting too as maureen saw the crazy amount of white feathers everywhere. So egg production is slim and who knows if Jake is doing his job. Heck he's looking so bad I think he's probably telling the girls that HE has a headache!

At any rate, fun afternoon with Maureen and letting babies go to their new home and it looks like we have 4-5 people/families that want to come out so I'll be PMing dates that could work... maybe a glass of wine and chicken viewing (although no wine at the ranch) or maybe a brunch - OOOO fun to do a breakfast...eggs could be the star! that is if my layers ever decide to lay again!

I feel your pain Cheryl. I have a blizzard of feathers & very few eggs right now. The pullets hatched in Febuary are what is giving the most eggs right now. My breeders are almost all on vacation.........LOL

I don't sell my eggs either. I get more pleasure out of giving them to friends & family than the few bucks I would get from selling them to strangers. When I get an over abundance of them I hard boil them & chop them & feed them to the brooder chicks. They go crazy for them.

Along with the million chores in the pens today, I'm going to try to get some pictures. The jubilees are enormous round balls and the little baby tolbunt is adorable!

Have more jubilees coming so hopefully I'll be hatching by spring!

Question.... my almost 6 month old roo at the ranch never crows, he only does these little squeeks - is there a chance he won't crow?
