Bay Area BYCers!

Just back from a week long business trip, can't wait for sunlight so I can go check out how much all the chicks have grown!!

I'm also hatching really fun chicks this weekend... tons of pips this morning when I woke up!

The most beautiful columbian plymouth rocks from Yard full o' rocks
project chocolate & black orps LF
and my own first mille fleur leghorns, I''m so so excited about these. I'll be hatching a couple hundred or these in the next few months so I can get a larger flock to rekindle the breed. I am so loving this breed, Walt came out and helped me critique them for confirmation. I learned so much and have a real game plan about how I'm going to be bringing this breed back. They are super friendly, really they come up to me when I'm in the pen and are very curious.

Good for you Cheryl,
I am so glad you are doing such good things for the breeds you help. So nice of Walt to help out too.
I am so looking forward to the sStockton show & seeing so many of us there.

Thanks Karen, it's really fun. As you know I've also been working with the silver penciled rocks and I had a set back with losing my rooster. But it has a HUGE silver lining because I'm getting a new roo and a couple of hens from what people consider the best breeder in the country of these! His flock apparently is much closer than any others to confirmation. I thank Bob Blosl for helping with that connection!

I admire your willingness to take on breeding projects. I don't know how you do it. I have my hands in too many things all the time. I enjoy them all but can't seem to get enough done. They will never say we never got to do anything though.....LOL We try to do it all!!!!!!!!!!! Lovin' it too!!!!!

Oh my gosh Cheryl, what happened to your roo?

He really was a pretty boy.

SO TRUE!! I'm really going to be concentrating though going forward on just hatching/raising and selling my own breeds. I've got these columbian eggs and some French Golden Cuckoo Marans eggs coming today from rockinpaints! but then if I can control myself

these will be my last hatching eggs that are not from my own flocks. That should make things a bit less crazy here. I've got over 75 chicks in the brooder right now....crazy nutz hope to sell them at stockton and really get to concentrating on what I love the most.

I really need to work harder at my "day-job" this year so that we can try to retire in 5 years. Therefore the chicken passion needs structure and control. ok now everybody can LAUGH OUT LOUD

Oh sorry didn't lose him in a sense of sickness or death, he actually is still at the ranch living with all of Sienna Ranch's lovely ladies and loving it. I gave him up because I wasn't happy with some points of his confirmation. I'm being really really picky on these silver pencils and mille fleur leghorns, even if it sets me back a few steps. Sometimes a mini fault doesn't show until they are adults

Yumm-o! If it's the Montclair store, I've been there! I visit the Bay Area about once a month and sometimes head up to Napa. On my last trip to Napa I phone back to LV and asked if anybody wanted me to pick up anything while I'm here.... Mind you, I'm thinking a case of wine or olive oil or some such that we pay a premium for in NV. The answer, "Yeah, some Peet's Coffee." Whodathunk?

Yes Cheryl, I had to chuckle out load because I can sooooo identify with your plight. I am retired already & can't keep up, or control myself. I am trying hard not to set eggs yet but it is getting increasingly more difficult. I need to cut back to what I can handle myself & that is way less than I have right now. My son needs to concentrate on his own life & not his mother's interests.....LOL

I helped out at the Montclair store not too long ago, it's nice up in the village.
