Thank you, Jeremy! I always enjoy seeing pics of your birds, too! They are all beautiful!

We had a near disaster here today with Cosette. We have our backyard divided into 2 parts so our 10 month old puppy/dog can run free without us worrying about the chickens. We let the chickens free range the whole yard for a few hours each day because the dog's part has grass still. So today while we were at church and the dog was in her kennel, the girls had free run of the whole backyard. When we came home I took some treats out to bribe the chickens back into their section of the yard. They all came running after me for the treats. At least, I thought that they all came running. Cosette must have been off doing her own thing. She is our token ditsy blonde! I shut the gate and Monet & the grandkids took Pixar into the backyard to play. All of a sudden I heard all three of the kids screaming at the top of their lungs. DH and I went running to see what was happening. Monet screamed, "Pixie bit Cosette!!!" Pixie was standing there with the kids looking like it's all fun and games. We called her into the house and went to check on Cosette. Monet was holding her and I checked her over. There were no marks or signs of blood. Monet assured me that Pixie had her mouth on her and that Cosette lost a couple of feathers. I held her for a few minutes, opened the gate, and she ran to rejoin the flock. She looks no worse the wear for the experience. I really think that with the kids yelling, Pixie just thought that it was a game. I think that I need to train the kids how to react in a way that doesn't reinforce the dog's natural behavior and continue to work with Pixie on the "leave it" command. Plus next time, I better count my chickens before the latch! I have just one question, why is one dog way more work than 15 chickens?

How old is Pixar again? If you want some help. let me know, says the woman that needs to start working with one of her's LOL

Glad your girl is ok. Those pics for your birds are gorgeous. It looks like they're posing.

Debi, Toby sometimes nips at the chickens. He has a natural instinct to herd and sometimes gets too excited around the birds. We've always been very stern with him and haven't had any issues yet. Whenever he gets a little too close to the birds I remove him from the run and he gets to go inside. He'll be 2 this year, so I feel like we've got a long road ahead of us still until he completely understands right from wrong, he's a smart dog though.

You can ask that question again Debi.... I am so not into dogs right now. My daughter's big yellow lab is all over this place. He is 2 years old but thinks he is still a puppy. He hasn't killed anybody but my son'd Phoenix is totally missing his tail right down to the bare flesh pope's nose & 1 free range Delaware cockerel has a bite of tail fathers missing. I found a small pile of the fluffy white ones outside by the shop & picked them upto use for earrings............LOL. I later looked around & was able to idenify where they had come from. A couple of days ago the dog ate to of the Buff English Orpington eggs I had gathered to put in the incubator. The dog, Teak, used to have an electronic color & would only roam 150 feet from my daughter's house next door but somehow he lost it & is now all over the place. Having this dog loose makes me dread going outside to see hwat's next........:(...

I would put him in a kennel Karen until you could get another electronic collar, you've invested too much into your birds to potentially lose one. It seems the dog already likes to nip at birds. If the electronic collar worked before then that's probably our best bet at controlling him.

I've got a question for you Karen, I'll PM you.
