Bay Area BYCers!

Hi all, I'm also hopping over from the northern CA thread, just saw pics on this thread of my new obsession, Seramas! I'm also in the market for some more, right now I have 3 pullets that are laying.

Hi Liz, have you seen the Serama thread? American serama thread! There's also one for traditional Serama, but it's not as active. The little eggs are so perfect. Do you have a rooster?

Liz I have 1 for sure boy and one dunno sex on seramas. Are you going to be in the orange ville thingie next month? I could bring them. One is frizzled one is smooth.

I'm on my phone in the car so will say more later!

Wishingforwings snicker daddy did have a stress full week or 2 when both girls were broody but he seemed happy once there were chicks to hop around protecting everyone. He is ecstatic now that the girls perch with him again however!

Haha! I can just picture it, poor guy. Do the girls miss Snicker Daddy?

Coffee and Donut are very bonded. Paired since chickhood! She lets out the most desolate wail when he is taken away, and he will pace and flap and cluck and fly out of the pen to stay near his girl. He started crowing early (6 weeks or so) and has been courting ever since - being protective, offering food, building nests, and lots of sidling.

Their devotion is inspiring, but I wonder how they will handle the addition of some new pullets. My son and I are making the trek to Grass Valley to buy 2 or 3 new pullets (or whatever the pocketbook can bear!), and I hope these two will accept the new girls without too much fuss. Are Seramas good with introductions? or will it be the standard get-out-of-my-space! We'll just take it slow...

chiqita, how long should we wait before trying to hatch some of the pullet eggs? She's been laying for 9 days (7 eggs!) but I read that it's best not to hatch pullet eggs. I don't think I can wait very long!!

but what do you think is best?

Might as well test for fertility right from the start!! Took about 3 weeks to start developing.

Daddy and his girls were also raised together
Does not stop him from trying to court the silkie broodies who share his porch. Seems like the girls share fine when not broodies .

Hello all, any chicken or duck owners in Bay Point? Today my husband got a notice saying I can't have my birds. All of my neighbors love the birds so I know there have been no complaints. Living in a unincorporated town I didn't think I would have to deal with this. Does anyone in the area have any information that could help me? The little zoning info on Bay Point that I can find says nothing on backyard fowl. I'm not letting my girls go without a fight so any help would be appreciated.
