Blue split Chocolate cockerel I'm growing out, the only Blue boy I hatched this year.
His color is a bit all over the place right now, but I like his type.
He's showing some promise.



Splash split Chocolate cockerel, half brother to the Blue, same father but different mother.
He's shaped more like a brick, sort of how a good Rhode Island Red should be.
I don't think I'll be holding onto him for breeding.



Another Chocolate pullet, sister to the pullet I posted a picture of the other day.
She's a couple months younger, but I like her.



Black hen... mother to the Blue split Choc cockerel, and Chocolate pullet.
She's going thru a rough molt... LOL.
Poor girl.

A couple of people on the SV Chickens list had expressed an interest in matching up backyard chicken owners with schools that want to hatch out eggs in the classroom. I thought it would be worthwhile to reach out to people on this thread too in case there's interest here. Currently I'm setting up this program for schools and organizations in the Silicon Valley area, although I've had interest from people outside the area who might want to provide fertilized eggs or adopt hatched chicks.

Interested? There are lots of different ways you could get involved. You could commit to adding hatched chicks to your flock, lend out equipment, or provide mentoring and education about chickens and the hatching process.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form by January 1. I'll coordinate the responses I get and be in touch with next steps. Feel free to forward this form to anyone else in the Silicon Valley area that you think might be interested. i usually provide discounted hatching eggs to teachers when they ask, been doing it for 3-4 years. if they are needed you can PM me. All depends on the time of year, etc. i try and steer people away from easter hatching, you can ask for info if you care

Hi Bay Area folks!

We have a charming rooster who we would love to breed with our hens but who, well, doesn’t quite have the technique. I’ve watched all the videos on artificial insemination (“chicken porn”, my fiance calls it) and tried all the techniques in the videos, in Storey’s guide, etc, but can’t manage to get the semen for collection. I’m sure I must be doing something wrong.

Is there anyone out there in the Bay Area who is experienced in these matters? I would be so grateful if you could tell me what I’m doing wrong! Happy to travel with our gentleman roo and bring him to you .
