Bay Area BYCers!

Its a black copper maran. Hoping it doesnt turn out to be a roo!
Did you find anything while you were down here?

Possibly, possibly. Internet access is an issue there. They use that Clearchannel crap. It's slower than dial-up & it just wouldn't do for my job (I'm a telecommuter.... I can live where I want... my company's in Oklahoma... I just need high-speed internet access).

I also hope your little chickie doesn't turn out to be a roo! Where'd you get her? I am in the market for a marans (just not a cuckoo marans). Are there good chicken sources in the Merced area? There are certainly a lot of feed stores.

I got him/her from a fellow BYC'er who is starting in with the BCM and had a baby hatch. She offered it so of course I couldnt say no to just one more. So far so good. Spoiled little thing tho.... Im not sure where she got her eggs from.

I plan on starting construction on my Little Tykes coop soon... does anybody have any advice or pointers who've taken on a similar project?

With the wet rains, a few people on the chickenchatcoop list were discussing "Stall Dry" for their coop floors .. it is DE and a fine clay mix to sprinkle on the coop floor to absorb moisture.

Has anyone here used it, and how well does it compost later? Western Farm Center in Santa Rosa has it, but I didn't get any today. I've mixed in rice hulls in my coop, and the poops are easy to pick up with a cat litter scoop JP, at Western Farm Center prefers pine shavings.

BTW, Western Farm Center has some damaged rice hull bas @ $2.00 off..

My friend Dyann is taking all 10 of the darlings and breeding them. They are turning out AMAZING! I'm sticking to breeding Coronations (I have 9 pure coronations now-6 more pure & 4 splits coming on Wednesday) and Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks

I'm also researching a mille fleur/calico breed, but a large fowl, might be a project for me

I moved all the older girls into the hoop coop (reduced my laying flock drastically) and moved the babies (5-9 week old coronations & Blue orps) into the other coop. They will all grow out in there together and then I will split it into 3 breeding pens as they mature.

Well I will need to be on the top of your list for those MFL, okay?

ETA: That's quite a bit of variation Cheryl, I like that!

With your trio of breeders, my Dels & BW Ameraucana, we are going to be able to supply folks in the Bay Area with some awesome chicks!
