Bay Area BYCers!

We missed you jeremy.

Yeah - we had rain start last night. It's raining off and on (mostly on) this morning so far. DH asked me to start a fire in the fireplace. It's our favorite way of reacting to rain. Keeps us cheered up when it's gray outside.

Jetta and Janneke seem to be getting along fine with our chickens so far. I put them in last night when the girls were asleep. I'll go out and toss treats regularly today so they have things to do besides fight.

I got an egg from an AM hen (Golden Quail) that ended up being 1st BV! The girl who owned it's dad, came up behind us when Makayla and I were talking about hatching eggs and asked if we wanted it, Was soooooo frustrating seeing eggs on birds being shown and sold and still laying and then going out thismorning to these lazy things waiting to be feed. Rotten birds.

I lost one of my BO chicks early this morning. It was the one I brought it becasue wasn't catching up with the others and it had seemed to be doing better, but lost it anyway. This was my sticky chick from that hatch. I guess it's best I have the strongest survive, but I hate lossing a bird. Oh and I had gone out to the garage before the show and one of my brooder lights wasn't working, so I had already lost my 3 cochins I had just got. Wasn't the bulb, but the light itself, so I'll have to go get a couple more when my car gets out of the shop.

I'm so mad at myself right now. I had talked ot one of the young girls showing and she had 4 pairs of Black Orps. I was putting off buying and she offered me a deal and then when I went back before I left she wasn't around. She hadn't sold any birds and although I hadn't wanted that breed I wish now I had gotten them.

I did get 36 CM eggs from Lotsapaints and I won a dozen eggs from the Marans Club, which I just joined yesterday, so my first official breed club. Just joined the AM club too online, so I'm feeling like I belong someplace now. I love my AMs and Marans!

Started raining here last night and stopped a couple of hours ago. Nice and wet out here for months. My yard is getting overgrown and these freeloaders should be out taking care of that, but noooo, they want treats and real food. LOL I really miss my Guineas right now!

So sorry about your birds!

Funny, Marans and Ams are my favorites too. They are the only ones I breed (except for a few EEs). I mean I love all my birds but the rich colored eggs are my favorites.

Hi All,

Sorry to have missed the show yesterday, but I did have a great time at my high school reunion, despite the weather .. I'm going to assume that the annual Stockton poultry show is probably the last weekend in January?? Need to put it on the calendar so I don't miss it next year.

Jeremy, Not too many fairs this spring that I know about in the Northern Bay Area ... The Sonoma County Fair is in mid-July, and the Marin-Sonoma Fair is around June 24 at the Petaluma Fairgrounds. The Marin Fair is around the 4th of July weekend. I think there is a Cloverdale Citrus Fair in February(?) but I don't know if poultry are shown, you would have to check the website.

My friend in Rio Linda did arrange to get two Aruacana pullets yesterday, one from the lady in Willits; thanks to all of you for the contacts

Did anyone read the article in today's Chronicle about Berkeley and roosters and noise?

Western Farm in Santa Rosa has their "chick arrival list" posted outside their chick room, starting in March. They have a changed their poultry supply section around, and there is a new section near their garden seed supply area for chickens. I told Larry that was a great idea

He was working on some 4H poultry project last week - got to give that guy credit at 80+ years young!

Congrats to Cheryl for her first showing

Hope we will have a meet up sometime before the end of summer ...

I didn't see any WAMs awww wams! LOL

But I found a breeder with lots of colors I'm going to be buying from.

And she has some BLUE hens and pullets she'll be selling soon, so gotta save my pennies!

I went to pick up two girls for my flock today in the pouring rain. I took the coop too and I feel like someone beat me up...it's all set up for the new year old EE's, Bip and Bop.
They are so sweet and very pretty. The coop and run are made with a lot of jiggery pokery and my yard looks like I've built a shanty town. BUT the chickens are happy. I can not wait for blue/green eggs!

My friend is looking for a standard wheaton Polish hen. Anyone in Norcal have one? Too many bantams in Stockton

Hi! Sorry to butt into what seems to be a long established group of friends, but you indicated, "a lady in Willits" that might have Aruacana pullets? Was this just a one off thing or does she sell others?

Thanks.

Oh Mrsfoote! That is exactly the bird my friend is looking for. Tell me Punkin has a sister that wants to live in Novato!

Ugh. Well no more extra cuckoo hens for me. Dang. At the last minute she said they had mareks last year and one roo survived and the other didn't get it. The hens were supposedly vaccinated. I decided to not take a chance so didn't take them home. Poo.
Any way. I'm getting my own eggs now so I'll stick to hatching my own. Right now I have nine cuties to raise anyway!
In a week I'll start collecting for anyone who wants some fertile BCMs but mine are not perfect snow stock just to be honest. I'm new and getting these new BCM chicks I hatched to improve my stock.
