Cuddling pictures coming up! So far I have five/seven hatched out of the Splash Marans eggs...two are grey-ish and three heading to yellow. One has a funny toe, all are seriously feathered shanked, and one has Dolly Parton hair! They are stinking cute! (Clio--I was at Harmony Farms today getting bare root fruit trees! 'Tis the season...)

Ignore the marker-happy hands! Manicure coming soon!

Look at that face!

Dawn,
We went to Garden Delights on Stony Point/near Todd Rd. and got a 4-in-1 Pluot (four kinds of pluots grafted onto one tree) and a black cherry. These weren't little bare root trees - they will bear fruit this year if all goes well and if the squirrels don't eat all the fruit, should I plant them at my Berkeley house. I might just leave them here in Petaluma. I should meet up w/ you at the Gravenstein Apple Fair this August; my husband helps with the Masonic Apple Fritter booth.

BTW, I hope my cochins won't go broody soon!!

I guess my "you'd better be good for Anna or next time to go for a ride in a car, it's to the Campbell's factory" talk with them on the way to laurie's worked!

jeremy wrote: Well, splash colored plumage varies in how much ''blue splotching" there is from bird to bird. Much like how you have different shades of blue. My guess is the lighter, more blonde chicks will be a paler white/gray overall with softer blue markings and the darker gray chicks will be more heavily accented splash.

I do like the Dolly chick too... you should start calling her Jolene. lol

Jolene! Country music history buff??? Or Dolly Fan?

I get to add more pics tomorrow.

My bantam Wellies just finished hatching tonight.'

I locked down a couple that I wasn't sure about. Yucky quiters when I finally decide something was up.

I got all 4 developed chicks though. My 14 year old son and I love Wellies.

I'm going to go pick up more eggs tomorrow, so I'll post what I finally decide on, but my main reason for going is for LF Wellies.

It was nice out today. Tried to introduce one of my Polish roos to the others while i was watching. I want a bachelor coop and need the guys to start getting along with more of the roos. It was pathetic. Elvis got his but kicked by hens and pullets. He was so happy to see the other two roos he's been penned up with.

I noticed that not only the hens, but the pullets were really checking out the boxes today. Got me all excited so I started putting a couple of the girls in with some of the roos. I might have a couple of OOPS! breedings though. That's alright, cause I'll take any boo boos to the auction and see if I can get feed money.

KNow there was more, but eyelids are very heavy.

Ohh- I want a 4-in-1! Drat. The only grafted trees they had were peach/nectarine, but on a mini tree, which I didn't want. DS talked me into a SR Plum (super-pollinator) as he really wanted the Japananese (something) Plum. Oh well, came away (as usual) with non-planned items, ...avocado, raspberries, another pomegranate, another blueberry... Oh, it's like Powell's Candy Store when I go there! But I should try Garden Delights and see what they have, I see...

I'd love to meet up at the apple fair! Let me know!

My two cochins went broody a total of 5 times in 2.5 months, so I caved...thus the babies!

I knew you'd want that one! Sooooo cute!
Now, why would my Splash Marans babies come out 2 x grey, 2 x pale yellow, and one a deeper-yellow Fluff-puff? Any thoughts here?

Who's splash marans eggs are they from?

Worked all day in the coops... We just constructed the breeding pens and in the nick of time..... Ziggy is mating-or whatever the poultry word for it is!!...holy smokes! he's a MAN!! I saw him on my barnevelder...so had to put him and sadie and fanny in one of the new breeding pens, now to get that coop finished for them (currently in a make shift rabbit hutch) The girls are still not laying but Sadie was popping in and out of the nest boxes yesterday....so soon we'll have hatching eggs.

Need to divide the coronations soon...I have 3 roos on 8 hens...2 of the roos are enormous, as tall as my knee and only 19 weeks!

And FINALLY get to eat our eggs today - I had wormed them with Valbazen-had to wait 2 weeks before you can eat the eggs. Even Oprah was in the box yesterday...she didn't lay but just trying it out for size...and it was a bit of a tight squeeze for big girl!
