Bay Area BYCers!

Holy crap, what did they say...if it's in one bag it's got to be in more...I'm picking up massive amounts of feed today, the last thing I need are bugs!

I picked up 3 bags of Layena and a 25 pound bag of scratch grains a couple weeks ago, with the same date marked on our bags, there was no weevils in our feed?

We only go to the store on Hookston road though.

I am in Fremont, so I go to Close feed and supply and have had no problems, ever. Once they were out of organic chick starter...but that hardly counts as a bad experience! Mike's in San Leandro I avoid as he doesn't take care of his birds properly (in my humble opinion) so I don't want to support him. Pullets with most of their feathers missing from being picked at really bothers me.

Thanks for sending me this link! And thanks for adopting Aspen and Quinn

Just heard the bad news about your hatch. Glad you've got your pretty Aspen and Quinn to keep you company.

Guess I'll have to wait for your hatch, Jeremy, before I get my blue eggs.

Hey Worftracks and anyone else interested,

Modesto Milling now sells soy free, 100% Organic feed at great prices. (I think) So in case you are looking, great feed from starter, scratch and layer feeds all 100% Organic and without soy. Just an FYI.

Anna B, I don't really like the conditions that they keep their chicks in either, their set up seems a bit outdated.

I've personally never bought chicks from Mike's, they're a bit overpriced when they have babies in. You can go to Concord Feed and get the same breeds for about $1 less or if you do drive to Hayward Close Feed sells their chicks for only $1.75 a chick! That's almost free!

Anna, I have 8 blue eggs in the incubator that are due to hatch around the end of Febuary, would you be interested in a little pullet from these babies? That is if any of the eggs make it out of lockdown and if any of them are little girls... I need to remember not to count my chickens before they hatch!

An update on Jane Austen - our BCM from Cheryl.

She's so shy and standoffish...

Here's her and Buffy - as you can see, they take their job of spreading mulch very seriously.

And a shot in the sun showing off her copper feathers:

I'm hatching Black Coppers soon, I really hope to get a couple pullets as they are from birds known to lay a very dark egg.
