There has been several posts on people hatching damages eggs. I wish I could refer you to the thread they were on. It was probably the Marans thread... Some used scotch tape to repair it, someone put melted wax from a candle on it. I can't remember it all. They did have some success with hatching them though. Good Luck

Wait, what's this about a $1000 chick?

ETA: Oh. Never mind. I got it. Cute pic btw!

She watched it hatch from her hen's egg. Then she said it was her's and noboy else's. Then she tried to sell it to me for $1000. That's her asking price. LOL

How cute.....Ya gotta love these kids & their chicks. You tell her to stick to her guns..........if that's what it's worth to her.!!!! LOL

Gosh Kim,
I wish I knew this a week or so ago. I had a chick come out Friday when it was due to hatch Monday. I was actually removing the eggs from the incubator to throw them out after their "eggtopsies". I always open each egg before disposing of it to learn. Anyway this poor little thing was trying to pip all those days late. o I gently craked open just the top od the egg for it & put it back in the incubator. It made it out on it's own but it was a mess. It looked like it was still in the egg, all curled up & still egg shaped. The neck was completely tucked in & legs up. All it could do was spin in circles. I felt so bad. I uncurled it over & over with no luck then finally cut some styrofoam strips from an egg carton & made a 4 part colar & taped it around it's neck & put it in the empty side of the brooder where none of the other chicks could bother it. I gave it food & water thinking the yolk sac was certainly depleted by now & went to town. When I came back & removed the collar the neck was straight & stayed that way. Now the feet I put the chick in a funnel for canning jam & pulled his feet through the bottom opening & loosely put a rubberband around his legs & set it in a cup. Gave it more water & food. Later when I released it, he could walk around but his feet looked badly deformed. Two days later he looked normal. Here it is yesterday

He's in with all the others doing fine
It's a little double mutant White Marans. One of the batch I hatched for Carrie, (HarmonyOaks) Substainable Yield Poultry in Arnold. She had already picked up all the babies days before.

They are adorable Jeremy,
Do I see some Lavendar or Blues in there? Are they Ameraucanas?

There are a few Lavenders in the tub Karen, for Dawn and Kim. No blues though.

Most of the bunch are Ameraucanas there are some Partridge and Buff Chanteclers in there though, too.

Here are some pics of our new little trio! The last two pics are of the little one with a splayed leg. I was up through the night doing chick physical therapy with her. She seems a little better this morning but still has a wide stance. It is her right leg that is going wide. I have to work all day today so I'm giving detailed instructions to my people girls. I'm debating whether to use a bandaid on her legs or not. What do you think?

Good morning!

Petrock are those supposed to be Silver? I'm just wondering, because I have silver, but have never seen the chipmunk markings on them. Mine were closer to black and smoky grey.

Karen I'm bringing home 3 lavs and 3 silvers from that bunch. Kind of nice that we had Jeremy to get them all past the shipping trauma.

Go Jeremy!

I have some blues posted back a couple of pages that I just hatched out. They were the ones that were hatching that I told you about at the show. I'm glad my Olive Eggers have feathered shanks or I'd be wondering who was who in there. LOL I just love blue AMs. Fell in love with my silvers the first time I saw them and saw how pretty my little guy was getting. He's beautiful.

I'm hoping I don't find something else to fall in love with though, cause I'm running out of room.LOL

I have 18 eggs in lockdown right now. All the BCMs are Bev Davis and the OEs (2?) are from a Davis girl and my blue AM. So far they are all hatching out blue. I'm trying to talk myself out of it, but I'll probably keep 2 roos and maybe 10-12 pullets to keep my OEs going for me. I'll have to see. Summer gets hot and not sure how I'll be feeling this year. Hard work in the heat is awful as you know.

I'm thinking about using my black AM roo for the next batch of OEs.

They are supposed to be silvers. They are the first ones I've ever seen so I don't know any different. The Ameraucana club website shows chipmunk markings on silver chicks.
