I'll see what I can find out.

I can't do Angels Camp. There's an ex of an ex I just can't deal with right now. LOL

I need to find a show for Kayla. I think I'm going to have her show a Fav cockerel and pullet. Sweet birds, not too heavy, but I signed her up for APA-ABA and I have no idea what to help her with to learn. I'd really like her to show a BCM we hatch out, but the birds are almost as big as her grown. LOL The only d'Uccle that I have that I think is beautiful is also wacko. I guess he'd be fine if I picked him up more. I do have a bantam Wellie pullet that's nice. Not to sure about El Guapo (Pene Roo) cause he's a little bit skiddish. She really wants those prehistoric looking bantam Games. The close feathered, upright one with the LONG legs. She just loves those birds.

Anyway I do need to hunt some shows and soon. Also need to contact the State leader and see what I need to teach her.

Kim,

What about the CA Expo/Sacramento in July?

See if your local feed store has resources for the 4H leaders in your area?

Last year, in Fair Oaks, CA (not far Sacramento) there was a Chicken Festival in mid-September ... a celebration of the city's feral chicken population .. but not to compete / show chickens.

Jeremy, Your latest photos are terrific!

Morning Kim,
Did you get an exhibitors list at that las 4H show we went to? There were those Modern Games there for sale & they were going like hotcakes. I think Heather at J.S. West has the list. People were walking around with them in one hand with their legs hanging down...it was cute evn if I am not into small birds. Seems like they would be perfect for Kayla.

X2 on the modern game bantams for kids...we have friends who start their 4H kids out on them, and they handle really well, and easy to keep clean. Do either of you know what they have now as far as chickens at JS West?

Jeremy, your birds are lovely. I wish I could bid on those eggs, but chicken math has already gotten the better of me this year.

How do you get your birds to sit still for pictures? Mine either flee the camera in terror or they want to peck at the shiny glass.

nicoh, what's a dozen more eggs?

I actually have 13 collected for the current auction now!

The trick behind my pictures is nothing more than taking LOTS of them. I literally spend about an hour outside trying to get the "perfect shot". I probably take a minimum of 50-60 pictures during one photoshoot. Then between deleting some right away and while editing/watermarking on my computer I'm lucky to end up with 8-10 that I feel are presentable.

That said, I probably spend entirely too much time outside taking pictures of the birds!

jeremy, i've received strict orders from the SO that i must build a new coop before I can have any more chickens, so I guess that's what's a dozen more

During that torrential rain last week I found out that our previous water proofing was... lacking. Also, giant fluffy cochins look miserable when wet. Luckily she dried out all ok.

I spent like 2 hrs trying to get pics for my thread over in the gender/breed forum. I thought i was overdoing it with about 40 shots for 8 pics, but I see, I need to do more, not less.

LOL, I hear you. If only I had more land... to build more coops, in order to increase my numbers. Chicken math can really be stifled when you live in an urban environment.
