Bay Area BYCers!

Hey Bay Area Peeps! I just talked with Natalie and she's looking for someone in SF, but will talk with anybody in the SF Bay Area. It is an in-person interview, so she's love to meet out in the City or maybe even come visit you.

Anybody available, or know someone who might be?

I've lost 4 hens now. Mabeleine my very favorite speckled sussex's carcass was by the coop when I got to the house this morning. Sally the barnevelder was just feathers as was a huge buff orpington. I also lost a silver sussex.

Four total, I'm so upset. Never had a predator before, but maybe because the dogs were home they were chasing them off. Chooklet thinks it's raccoons. I locked all the girls in the pen, no free ranging till I move back home. Which by the way is on the 25th! The house is really looking amazing, can't wait.

I also installed a couple of nite guards that I had purchased for Sharon's coop, but she won't need them.

I'm looking for a 2-4 hens to add to my layer pen if anyone knows of some high quality stock available...

My mamas and babies got out and about around day #3, and the latest cochin, Elye with her one baby, never went back to the (dog) crate, and instead sleeps on the floor of the coop, hopefully not getting pooped on from those on the roosts above

Hope your house will be better than ever!

Sorry to read about your hens, hopefully when you have them locked up they will be safe.

BTW, your Lizzy, the BO, is soooo people oriented, and wants to spend the nighs inside in my guinea pig's open hutch! She is super loving ...

Do you have a have-a-heart trap? Whatever it is knows where to get it's next meal so if you don't set a trap you'll continue to loose your girls. We lost one of our young EE roo's last week, set the trap and caught a skunk! There's just no way to kill a skunk w/o a stink. Skunk and racoons are similar in their habits. Sorry you lost your girls but I wouldn't add any more until you catch what's taking them.

Yep considering a trap as well...I have over 35 hens & cockerals (not crowing yet!) so adding a few more isn't a problem. My coops and pens are secure it's only because without my being home and letting them free range 24/7, they are at risk, that's why they are now locked up
