Bay Area BYCers!

Thank you so much, for your kind words, I was feeling a bit like a failure this morning. Nothing a really good cry and a stall mucking didn't help. I just wished there was something could have noticed sooner or prevented. There is one more smaller one and Im watching her close, she hangs back like you said and mostly right under the lamp where its warmest. I took them down 3 degrees this afternoon and she got mad for a bit (a good sign I hope)....but her crop was partially full this morning so I know she is eating. I gave polyvisol in their waterer and gave her a drop just to be on the safe side, I think she sleeps more than the others.

I hear what your saying about replacing her and I know sooner is better than later. I may have to put some chicken math at work so she wont be alone for the long car ride home....

We definitely went into this with the thought that they were livestock, but they certainly have much more personality than our cattle...now they are much more than that. They are pets with a purpose. Aside from eggs and meat, they provide me with some much needed sanity and entertainment after a long hair pulling day at work.

So redirecting back to the convo about the Chickenstock...

I think we need to make a decision sooner rather than later (now?) about the location of the party.

The Oakland Zoo? See the details here or the only other location that was offered up, Sienna Ranch in Lafayette, details here.

If we are going to move ahead with the Zoo location we need to:

1. Choose which picnic site we want, the Lion Lookout or the Tiger Timbers

and 2. Need to begin collecting funds to reserve the site.

Let's get to deciding people.

A playground would be great for that!

What is the playground like? As many times as I've been to the Oakland Zoo, I don't remember seeing a playground. That just shows you how aware I am! Not!

I didn't hear from the sienna ranch owner today, but just so everyone has the info, the ranch has paths, tons of animals and just plane old fun places for kids to run around (adults too!)

The playground is in the same area as our potential picnic sites. Here's a picture.

It looks fun to me. I'd slide down that elephant slide!

The picnic sites are on the outside of the zoo.

If today is any indication of what the upcoming weather is going to be like... it will most certainly be cooler and more comfortable in Oakland too. As soon as you go through the tunnel the temperature goes up by like 20 degrees, so it could potentially be very HOT in Lafayette.

Another point for the Zoo- there's nothing like the Bay breeze on a warm summer's day.
