Bay Area BYCers!

Sorry about all the wind damage! It sure has been crazy weather!

When is Stockton exactly? I'm trying to figure out if I need to push up the coop building so that I can possibly get a couple pullets there.

My boy twin was so enamored with the chickens cherylcohen posted, I may need to get orpingtons!

Oh my gosh! I am going to go insane looking at all these adorable birds and not knowing when I can get some or whether I'll be able to get what I want! Currently my list is a Bantam Buff Laced Polish, a Black Copper Maran, a Lavender Ameraucana, and perhaps an Orpington because my son says that is HIS chicken everytime he sees one! : ) he doesn't really show any interest in any of the other breeds at all, but anytime a fluffy little Orpington pops on the screen, he goes nuts about his chicken....

the only problem is we can only have 2 in city limits... : ( my husband says maybe we can apply for a permit for more... especially since we only want girls for eggs. : )

I'm with your son................Orpingtons fluffy bottoms have captured my interest too. I have a few with intent to get a few more. There are so many breeds out there though. He may see somthing else that calls to him between now & when you get them. I had my grand daughter look through Storey's Enclycopedia of Poultry & chose hers from all the pictures in there & in all my poultry magaines. She held fast to Black Australorps & then when we got them their sheer size scared her & she was afraid to handle them...............LOL. Australorps & Orpingtons are both large beautiful breeds.
I can't believe your town only allows 2. I think most "city dwellers" fudge on that but with no roosters to alertthe neighbors......LOL Good luck................. I am sure you will love it.

Ok, I have a mystery.

I just saw my mille fleur leghorn, Veronica , come off the nest. But the egg is not white. It's a creamy beige color. Could this be hers? Or is it from a dorking or barred rock earlier? Can leghorns lay beige eggs?

Well, it's official. My Mille Fleur Leghorns are *not* laying white eggs. I watched Rosalba lay one. They're cream-colored!

ETA: today's Mille Fleur Leghorn eggs on a piece of white printer paper.

And for Cheryl, a shot of both girls in the nesting box:

They are so pretty - ok the egg thing, I guess that's one more thing I need to add to the list of things I need to work on with this breed.....

but actually hmmm something to ponder - they are the ones that had white legs so is it possible then genetically that they are predisposed to the brown egg layer traits that were in the mix to create the birds...way back when.

Anna I'm sorry I know you wanted white eggs, I know you are attached to the girls by now, but of course if you want to rehome them let me know
