Baytril dose?

Can anyone help me please?? Is Baytril to be given once or twice a day?? I am actually using pills. They are for my dog but he was allergic to them and thus luckily I have a whole bottle to give both my sick girls although one is the one really showing symptoms most.

I know the directions for my dog are to give 1 every 24 hours. However I've seen here that people are giving it twice a day?? I also question it because it's so odd... I give them a dose every evening before roosting and the one that shows symptoms seems to wake up brand new like she's never been sick!!! However by mid day she's starts going downhill on me again???

So PLEASE will someone clarify this for me??? It is really going up be a problem if it is twice a day in fact however, as I my husband leaves for work very very early and thus I'd have noone here to help me give it her!!!
Well I'll figure something out somehow. Thank you so much in advance.

Might be better to give it twice a day. How much does you chicken with and how much are you giving?

I was giving her half of a tablet and they are 22.7mg. But yesterday and today I gave her 3/4 tablet. She only weighs maybe 3lbs she's so emaciated poor angel. This is the one that was so sick I thought for sure I'd lose her sometime around last Christmas. She's the one that had that doughy crop. Do you remember?? I'm pretty sure we wrote each other about it?? I took her to 2 vets, they did fecals and bloodwork and all kinds of crap and couldn't find anything wrong. I finally just decided to give her that crazy mix of spices someone had posted online somewhere.. I don't remember if it was on BYC though?? Anyways I tubed that mixture in her 3 times a day for 2 days and on the third day she woke up with an almost empty crop and what was left in there was not doughy anymore. It felt normal. Then I gave her a probiotic and the next morning she had an empty crop. So I've kept her on probiotics, both of them actually and she has been doing very very well. A huge appetite again and all. Now this???

She seems to be slowly improving though. I mean I'm seeing her eating from their feed bowls and all and this afternoon I gave them just a little lettuce with some mashed up green beans and she was eating it too. I don't know how much she ate from it though cause my husband does the plate pick up and letting Daisy back in the run.... I have to separate them or Daisy won't let her eat!!! She's horrible about it and Livie is sooooooo timid it's just beyond ridiculous!!! But in any event she is starting to eat and Thursday morning when I heard her singing the egg song for Daisy in the nest I about fell down cause she's not sang in months!!! In fact she used to holler for me every morning to come take them out and last time she got sick she stopped doing it and this time the same thing. It's like she hasn't the strength poor little angel to even holler??? She is not as weak or bad off though than last time because she's my "jumper and announcer" and she can still jump on the roof of the coop where she gets to do her hollering and morning announcements!!! Heeeeheeeeee
These chickens are a riot aren't they???
Well sorry I got carried away here..

I know for my dog BTW the instructions are to give him ONE a day and he weighs 10lbs. So with her being so skinny right now, I'm kinda scared to give her more than that? What do you think? This gal is nothing but feathers and bones!!! I don't even know how she's alive and even manages to walk to tell you the truth!!!
Well thank you for all your help always. I know I can always count on you for help and I so appreciate it!!!

I forgot to ask for how long do I give them the Baytril?? Going on 6 days so far, though I did not get to give them a dose yesterday. I will continue today with day 6 however. How much longer would you give it for? She is eating better, but I don't think quite enough yet to say she's back to normal. She's also more alert and walking about alot more today.

I don't usually give it longer than 5 days, but there were a couple of times the vet had me give it for ten days.

Thanks, to you and Ellen. I will make sure she's eating - and cut back to 1 ml if she won't. I wonder if I can break up the dose into 2 - morning and evening? Maybe that's a vet question.

Appreciate all your help.

Henlady, you can split up the doseage to give a constant flow of medicine -Batryl throughout the day.
Just read this this info. ..thought I'd share

Baytril I read should be given NOT on an empty stomach . IS that true?
also average time 5 days correct? what if BG still has diaherre? I dont think she eating a lot either.still some undigested stuff in her poo. so afar she been getting twice a day since tge 18th of this month of October. so tonight was the fourth nite dosage.
I will have to think of a way to give them some "food" before tomorrow morning dosaage.
been getting up early with Hubby and give Baby Girl and Sis a dose before let them out of their coop. so they havent eaten yet...
I also read on this forum Safegurd can be given also? I dont know how we are going to give so much of it. Bought the Paste this time.
Cause you told me >....50 cc wasnt enough dosage for an average hen like 5 pound hen.
I dont see them swallowing that much "paste" I have only used the white Sareguard for Goats and Valzben. and was told to alternate wormers...
Also a THIRD hen is having loose poo TOO for lat few days... It is SO MUCH to handle...
Please explain

LadyEarth,

OMG NO!!! YOU GIVE 1/2ML OF SAFEGUARD TO A NORMAL SIZED CHICKEN. IF OVER 6 TO 7 POUNDS THEN IML. YOU GIVE X3 DAYS THEN STOP FOR 10, THEN GIVE AGAIN FOR ANOTHER 3 DAYS.
1/2ml is the NORMAL DOSE for Safeguard. You can look it up on The Chicken Chick website which you can just google. I personally don't care for much of what she says as I really don't agree and have never had any luck following her advice. However she has a great article written by a Poultry vet that explains all about worming chickens.
Best of luck!!!

What you saw was probably .50ml btw lol. I can see where the error in dosage could easily happen there.
