I think he has better type, but he's got sprigs on his comb, which again is a DQ and I think his tail is going to get worse.

For me, this is the obvious cull. Side springs and squirrel tail have no place in the gene pool when you have perfectly good alternatives.I think he has better type, but he's got sprigs on his comb, which again is a DQ and I think his tail is going to get worse. View attachment 4215205
Would you mind breaking down the breed process for using this guy? I'd be interested in hearing, just for curiosity.View attachment 4215326I know he’s not the focus but I really like the type of this Blue GCM. If you were willing to risk a dilution to copper for improved type, I’d consider this guy.
I can’t see his face though.

There is also three of the BCM, One over melanized, one with the squiggly tail, and then one that's not too bad but has a good bit of gold. The thing is currently my main BCM has too much gold, and tail is not good.
The other thing to note is the Blue CM has a great personality (gentle/sweet). I don't always care about politeness with roos, but it is something that when the stars align I'll take.
@wrathsfarm the blue's are from cedars just for note + the splash.
The BCMs are all from chasin shade farms out of tx.
I'd say Cedar has the more consistent ones, and I'd be tempted to grab some of his BCM's just to see his line better.
This is his BCM's from last year - View attachment 4215354
100% agree!Ok, I thought I noticed that 3rd one. Yes, I remember you saying you had no BCMs from Cedar.
Foot note...I may seem like I'm being nitpicky as I'm searching for that best looking cock myself, I'm by no means knocking other breeders birds. I've got plenty of issues with my own flock also and finding that one in a hundred that's a good breed cock is hard, but we use what we have. We just don't use obvious culls and DQs that won't move us forward. These last couple years I've favored my boys and posted lots of pics, this has got me really looking at them hard and learning that having a good or bad roo is the foundation of our program. It really all starts and ends with our roosters in BCMs. Good or bad.
