I have a group of black ameraucanas right now, but I have trouble finding blues and splashes...maybe some day, though I'm thinking of selling these and just keeping bantams.

Maybe I'll get bantam ameraucanas, who knows?

Shelley, I don't know where you are located, but come spring I'd be happy to sell you just blue chicks. I find the splash chicks are harder to get for some reason. Every one I have hatched so far has turned out to be male. I do so want a splash hen.

To Illia and Shelleyd: Your Splash are both awesome! I'm curious to know if the trait for such good splash markings is hereditary or just luck of the draw?

It's more breeding than hereditary. Breeding splash to splash obviously results in splash, but eventually you end up with birds that look like this (right):

Or this (on the right):

To get good splashes you need to use a splash with a blue, that will keep the splash darker. Breeding splash to splash eventually washes it out.

Here are a couple of my BBS's in my araucana. Its not my favorite color, but I do seem to get alot of them.

light columbian splash with a cuckoo pattern

cuckoo splash

Nice blue splash

This is a duckwing splash which I think is nice
