BBS Thread

Hi,I'm glad you explained this.I have a BBS Marans pullet. Her parents were blue and her splash markings are dark and I really like them.A lot of the same in Marans did look washed out to me and now I understand why.Good to know. How does the color come out with a blue to splash mating?

I was using that term to describe her coloring which looks black and white in the pic, but is actually lt. blue and dk blue. Also that does not explain the duckwing splash who is brown, blue, black and splash with green in his feathers. Hence me calling him a duckwing splash. Then you have my cuckoo splash who I called that because his splash is cuckoo colored. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

There is no such thing as "black splash" or "blue splash." There is only splash. The background coloring of splash can vary from white to dark slate; the splashing can vary from light blue to dark blue.
For more details see this thread:

She was just referring to what the coloring looks like.

... It is all about education and learning correctly. That is why I added the link, to further explain. These things take time to learn. It is not at all about making corrections.

I don't mind the correction. I am not interested in the BBS I just happen to have quite a few of them and so posted pics of them. However it is important for people who are interested in learning about the coloration to know the correct terms. I have not read the link and may in the future. I do believe it is important to describe the type of splash because they are not all just splash as evidence by my various duckwing colored splashs, and I have what I would describe as a butchers apron splash ( white bird with red splashed wings, maybe a red pyle, not sure) I have the cuckoos, barred splash's, and blue splash's. I also have a black with white splotches's. I am waiting to see what that is going to grow up to be.

For the purpose of this thread maybe they are all just splash.

Is this thread only about the blues, blacks, and blue/black splash's. I have been wondering what genes are interferring with my duckwings and causing them to be splash. Maybe thats for another thread.

I have been asking about the duckwings splash's for a while and no one seems to know.

Does anyone know what genetics make a duckwing or BBR a splash? I know blue acts to modify black, so that could be part of the equation.

Not sure what you're asking of here. . . A duckwing (BBR is a form of duckwing) can be a splash simply by having the splash genetics. (both blue alleles) - This would be done by crossing a blue duckwing and blue duckwing or blue duckwing and splash duckwing. It's basically duckwing, (or BBR - which is solid gold duckwing) with both blue alleles.

And BBR stands for...?
