Hello, I'm new to raising fowl of any sort. I recently purchased four 2-week old purple keets. I've had them 2 weeks, and they are growing like weeds! I've recently noticed that their beaks are changing colors. They used to be orange, but now many of them are turning black. Looking at pictures, it seems the adults should have orange/yellow beaks. Is it normal to have black colored beaks?

I've been feeding them gamebird feed as it's the only stuff I can find in the area with higher protein. I put them in an outside coop with a penned run earlier this week, mostly because I went on vacation and didn't have anybody to clean out the place I kept them inside.

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

I have a coral blue and a royal purple guinea pair. They hatch keets that are only ever purples. When the babies hit that ugly duckling age their beaks turn black but they will grow out of it. They also have very spotted feathers almost like a pearl guinea and they will grow out of that as well. Royal purples are semi-pearled.

Thank you! I guess the uglies are coming then. They still have the fluff on their heads.
