Sound like they were clipped. Some do this to prevent picking.

It is usually done for chickens that are kept in crowded environments. (like cages)

To maximize your egg production, let them out when it is light and lock them back in at dusk. I have food and a waterer inside the coop and a waterer outside the coop. Extra water is really important when it gets hot out.

Just to add---dogs, raccoons, cars, hawks, foxes, and about everything likes to eat chicken. You may need a wall/fence/or some kind of security. You get chickens, then you meet preditors you did not even now lived in your area.

I agree, it sounds like they may have lived in close quarters before, so had their beaks clipped. As long as they can eat okay (which they usually can), they should be fine.

Where in Spain are you? I was lucky enough to visit several years ago, and LOVED it. The people were so friendly! I hope to go again, sometime.

finestrat costa blanca its a great little village in the mountains

yes they can eat fine but when u say cages does this mean that they are not pullets or do you think they are older birds

Hard to know how old they are. The previous owner might clip all his birds' beaks at a young age. If you can post pictures, we might be able to hazard a better guess as to their age.

Oh, and
