Bear attack

My trust is in you, I don't have bears in my area :pop

We do have bears but fortunately none nearby! I do have raccoons but they predate my chickens and couldn't care less about them as they are fed, fat and lazy. It's a good system so far as they keep more inclined raccoons away and scare off opossum, too.

I trapped 2 opposum when I was eliminating a feral cat problem next door so I know they are here. Racoon for sure, and coyotes. No fox, yet!

Coyote and bald eagles are our biggest threat. The eagles I can't even legally shoot with a bb gun.

The raccoon, well...not much a threat.

So sorry for your loss and pray the little ones are found safe. I freaked out when I found what I'm positive are racoon prints on two sides of my coop, but a bear wow. May I ask how you handle a predator like that coming back around?
Not sure what the laws are about it. I know stinging them with a bb gun (shooting them in the butt with a bb gun just stings wont injure them) will help keep them away for a while. We havent seen it in person to do anything though. I kept the back porch light on and planning on getting lights for around our bigger coop(thats where the bunnies are now they are rooming with the chickens. ) Not sure if we will do electric fence though.

Right!? Why would I do something smart and rational like electric fencing when I can sit outside my coop all night like a crazy chicken sentinel? :gig:highfive:
This is a plan. And something Hubs and I would do. Being hunters and all staying up isn't to much of a big deal (weekends when we don't have to work the next day though) I have 7 more days and I am off work for the summer. I will be a night owl for sure.

That's great! I'll probably be outside or on here. I'm usually up late, too! *clinksglass* Cheers!

You should get electric fence. It's not hard to set up and it will deter most ground predators. It looks like your coop is a pre-fab, so it's not really secure against much of anything.
