So we had a bear finally get in to one of the hutches (it doesn't seem to want the chickens just the bunnies/food)

Sad to say I cant find the bunnies that lived in the cage it tore apart. I guess its possible they "ran away" before the bear took them.

Well hes back tonight trying to get in another hutch... I really dont want to lose all my livestock to it... Does anyone know if its legal to shoot a bear to protect livestock ? We are in NH

Thanks for the reply's. Its 11 here so not sure anyone from fish and game would be around to help me at this hour. Hubby is out there waiting for it again.

If anyone else has more info that would be great.

Thanks again

I think in most places, when it comes to these situations, it's ok to shoot them due to personal safety. You can call the sheriff to be sure.

I'm not sure about your state but here in NJ we can't shoot them. If you do and say it was coming after you they will do an investigation and if you shot it in the back you would be in a lot of trouble because they are protected.. We have to call local law enforcement to take care of it.

Kill the darn thing! If it killed some of your bunnies and is trying to kill your live stock kill it! Don't worry - I doubt anybody will ever check. -
