Bear killing bunnies !! Can we shoot it ?

Well Mr. bear didnt come back after I yelled at him to "go home" (that was before hubby was around with the gun) So maybe he will move on.

I also would rather see him relocated BUT I have lots of time and $$ invested in birds/bunnies out there and im not willing to risk that either. I will call NH fish and game and see what the have to say, I had this happen to a friend of mine and they weren't much help so im not getting my hopes up.

As far as I know in NH bunnies fall under livestock as long as they aren't pets but I will be sure to double check when on the phone. Tonight I will take in all the feeders and hope that helps a little. Will keep everyone updated.

Thanks for all the help

If you live far enough out in the country that there is more than one, killing it isn't going to help much. You may want to call F&W first to try to relocate a problem bear, but most of the people that I know of that are beekeepers that have hives that are attacked will try to put up electric fencing. It usually keeps bears from coming around if it is done correctly.

You just have to weigh your options and how many predators you're going to have.

What I've heard from NH F&G is "A fed bear is a dead bear." Meaning, once a bear has gotten food from somewhere it will keep coming around. They're clever and it doesn't take them long to realize that good things come from bird feeders, trash cans, and chicken coops. Relocating a nuisance bear only makes it a nuisance somewhere else. I really hope you get the go-ahead to shoot it yourself if it comes back.

Tho we are far up in NH we are on Newfound lake (a vacation spot) so the risk of him being around is high as there are many people that come and go. Ill check in to the electric fencing

This is the same ive heard from others in the state who have had bear problems. and i do believe now that he got what he wanted he will come back for more.

Sadly I would have to Shoot it .. Just make sure you shoot to kill as an injured bear is very dangerous... Also dont shoot shovel and shutup .. If for some reason this bear is tagged or microchipped and you dont report it you could be in very big trouble

aside from whatever the laws are, do you really want to deal with a dead bear? Seems like a lot to handle as far as disposal.
