Bears are interesting, I looked out my window the other day and one was about five feet away looking right back at me!
That must be what the woman in New Mexico was thinking in August of 2001 when a black bear broke out the window to gain entry to her house, then killed and ate her.
When a grizzly bear kills someone it is usually the result of mistaken identity or the bear misreading the humans' intentions. However when a black bear kills a human it is usually a predatory attack and not a case of the bear mistaking the person's' identity or intentions. Black bears, especially large adult male bears, just sees us as lunch.
