Make sure new feathers are growing in. In some cases a hen who is the favorite of the rooster will get a bald back with raw looking skin. Make sure your flock is on a good quality diet with increased protein. You always want to see new feathers growing in.

They were outside as usual in a large area surrounding my 24x36 garage. I feed them bagged crumble from the feed store, a head of lettuce almost every day, some scratch feed, and have oyster shell available. 4 hens.
Outside in a fenced but uncovered area..so susceptible to hawks??

What protein and calcium percentages of crumble?
Should be on tag sewn into bottom of bag.

Some pics of bird and area would really help.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Kinda new to chickens so everything poses more questions.
That's for sure!!
The first year is like getting a sip of water out of a fire hose.
It'll get easier tho....hang in there and keep asking questions.
