Take a look at these beautiful stylish birds. I have both black, splash and grays together. The gray and splash are the rarer colors. The Sumatra chicken was recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA) and was admitted as a standard breed in 1883 in the Black variety. The American Livestock Breed Conservancy classifies the Sumatra as a critical heritage breed. This means there are less than five hundred breeding birds in the United States. They are the only breed of chicken whose roosters have multiple spurs. They roosters also have smaller waddles and combs, which also make them very attractive. They make great show birds!!!
Sumatra hens lay white, or lightly tinted, eggs and are considered excellent winter layers. They are also among the best of mothers and broodies. Both adults and chicks are very hardy and easy to raise. Sumatra chickens are active and alert smart and calm.
My black Sumatras have a beautiful black plumage with a shimmering greenish cast. As you can see from the pics of my blues they have nice coloring too. My blue hens have great definition to their laced pattern. I have one splash in the mix too.
Have fun bidding and thanks for looking!!!
