The last puppy ( we're up to 4 now- three live, one not) was breech and she quit pushing when his head was still inside, I got him out and had to help her get the sac off. I venture to guess that is what happened to pup number 1. I missed him by minutes, he had not yet gone grey but he was gone. I tried to get him back for 30 minutes.

I WILL post pictures- most likely about midnight for you all... so stay tuned.

So probably 2 more?

Can't wait to hear! Will probably check back in tomorrow morning!

Keep an eye on out for the more breech babies! Good job stepping in to save the last one.

Congrats...sorry about the loses though. Can't wait to see pics.

I can tell you when I was a kid we had puppies all the time but once I moved back home with dad we were not allowed to have pets who were not fixed. well last year my cat got out, came back home no further issues and then a few weeks later she was acting more loving and wanted to be held all the time and have her belly rubbed, this coming from a cat who likes to play bite and scratch if you touch her. I told my DH she is so pregnant....well the weeks went by and she got bigger and more loving, I got everything ready for her and a day before Xmas my cat comes up to me in bed at 3 am and woke me up. I knew something was up. so I got my husband up and she got off the bed and pulled her bedding out of the big crate I bought just for her and her kittens. It was so nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. the funny thing is she wanted me to rub her belly while she gave birth if I stopped she would moan and cry and get back up. so I stayed with her and she had 6 of the most beautiful kittens I have ever seen :-D It sure is one heck of an experience to watch your pet give birth!!! With that Congratulations!!!!

Congrats! Green stuff is normal with puppies - their placentas are green. Bebe probably got them eaten before you saw them on the other three.

If this is her first litter, she may just not have known to take the sac off that first pup. They can also have trouble clearing their lungs sometimes. Sorry you lost him, but it sounds like you have a nice litter anyway. Breech puppies are normal, too, though it's good that you removed that one if Bebe wasn't taking care of business. The umbilical cords sound fine, as well. Most breeders I know leave them alone. She'll be licking her pups a lot and will keep their cords clean along with their rear ends.

Do expect a bit of diarrhea out of Bebe, though. Those placentas are rich eating! I've been told on occasion not to let my girls eat more than one, but I've never been able to catch them before she does. LOL

You can take the cords down to about an inch. You want to crush it with something like hemostats, and then cut it , leaving the crushed area at the end of the cord. You can paint it with iodine if you want to, I never do.

Congratulations on your puppies!
