Thanks everyone, I think i feel puppies and she LOOKS different tonight. I've been doing daytime temps every 2 hours since yesterday and overnight about every 4... or when she gets me up to go out. they go something like 99.2 99.6 99.5 99.8 99.5 . . . last 100.5 degree reading was yesterday at about this time.

I noticed she has more of an hourglass figure today, vs the swallowed the beach ball look of yesterday.

Redyre do you think it's worth the trip ( hour each way) and expense to x-ray her tomorrow if no puppies are here by lunchtime? Or would you just give her the extra days to get her to day 68 and then have the vet do the c section ( assuming they don't arrive by then) . I'm really afraid of dead puppies obviously, but they are not going to see their status on x-ray anyway.

Todays the first day she has not topped 100 throughout the day tho! So thats something I guess. Also, when I took her out a little bit ago she kind of rolled her entire body forward and back, like a cat stretches almost before exiting her pen.

And as of 555 we have small milk drips on 2 teats! it's thick like condensed milk but it has no odor or off color.

so, she is milking up, this is good. You have colostrum right now, not milk. Colostrum can be any color from bright golden yellow to even greenish. A little more clear looking than actual milk.

Keep an eye on her. Visit my livestream page, or email me at [email protected] if you feel like you are in a bind and need info.

The others gave lots of good advice. I just wanted to add that my daughter's Brittany whelped her litter on day 65 after the one and only tie. Mom and Puppies were fine. We were really worried, but the vet said wait until day 66 and see how things are.
The Mom was acting fine and eating good during this time and the puppies were very active . There was no off colored discharge during this time that would indidcate an infected pregnancy and the need for a C- Section. If you see green discharge and no puppies coming get her right to the vet.

anything yet ???

We're heading to the vet to have her palpated and checked . . .I hate intervening like this and having the vet probe her, because i know in people this can rupture things prematurely and cause other issues but I'm most concerned with her health, the puppies health and lastly avoiding having a c-section if need be. she has not gone into active labor yet but due to her nesting yesterday then seeming to stop- better safe than sorry. now on day 65 by my count

I will be updating later- maybe with x-ray pics or something cool. . .

wish I was closer to you-I have helped many first time mom's dogs and their human moms and was a vet tech for years. Looks like you are getting good advice on here though, love everyone here and all the help they offer. Like everyone says dont panic yet, especially since you dont know for sure what day she actually took and you have a vet on call. Just remember when those pups come though they can manage to some how crawl a long distance away in no time if they dont have a good whelping box to keep them in so make sure you have an indoor area. One of my friends pittys had her pups in her upstairs bedroom while she was at work and she came home to finding 9 out of 11 pups somehow trying to make their way downstairs, they were all over their staircase-but everyone was fine since luckly she came home and got everyone back to mom in time, mom was still having pups so she couldnt get up to retrieve them. She is such a beautiful dog, cant wait to see pup pics

her whelping area is in our bedroom- she's clingy so it works- its a large expen so i'm hoping that will do just as well as a fancy box

vet said cervix is soft but puppies are NOT in position yet- she says 5-10 more days of cooking I guess

She couldn't see the middle of the uterus because of gas and fluid, she did count 5-6 puppies around the outside of the fluid and she said to expect 2-3 inside the area that was hard to see ... we guessed at 4 skulls in the fluid but it was really hard to decipher.

My vet took the time to do the exam and spent a good 40 minutes talking to me about all the options post birth ( for shots, dewormings ect). the other vet who we had seen two weeks ago and spoke to yesterday came in and tried to take us over but my vet took our file back over..

I <3 her.

We also have all her numbers ect incase of a problem after hours. We were glad to find out the c-section would cost much less than the last two surgeries we had to do so that is a load off... but at this rate we won't need one.

Fun facts :

Smaller dogs are easier to x-ray... they come out way better because there is generally less fluid and poop visible.

Dogs that require a c-section fall into two categories those who can whelp naturally again ( usually the large ones) and those that will never have another natural birth ( smaller generally)

my vet said we know our stuff and she'd be totally comfortable just sending me home with the dewormer and the shot boosters- so apparently I have more knowledge than I think.

Female dogs can conceive each of their fertile days... their body doesnt really start 'growing' the puppies till she is out of the fertile window.. that is why my timing is most likely off- because i'm counting from first tie and her body is counting 5 days later.

Awesome news!

Can't wait for puppy pics! Bottle up some puppy breath and send to me once they're out

I bet she has 9 in there! My Pitty had 9 her first time. I was AMAZED...she was big as a house though

Maybe you're doing too much..... observe, but give her some space and time. She's going to look for a quite place to have them when she's ready.
