I'm not going to lie- I thought we had another day or so like the vet said so I did not remove her blanket. And by the time I remembered it was soaked and she is DOWN and not moving till shes done. I have her new bed all ready to go down as soon as shes done and I'm sitting with her in the box making sure everyone is drying alright and has nipples and she seems to want them gone( well, not so much a want as she doesnt care if they are under her when shes working ont he next) when she has the next so i'm holding them on my lap in a warm towel while she has the next. when shes done and the new one is nursing she asks for them back- apparently she is one of the girls who likes help !

Up to 2 girls, 2 boys. One of the nursing girls was a boy. The last girl has a diamond on her 'withers' .

You need to remove the puppies when another one is coming! She MUST attend to the one that is coming. Keep a laundry basket, with a heating pad, well covered, nearby to put them in when she starts having another one. Or a box, or anything, just get them out of the way as soon as you see another one is coming.

These are the two that will not scar you - I'll take more after I change out her bedding and everyone's dry and nursed.

Its going well. She finally left the dead one alone and has not turned back to him so I don't think we will have an issue removing him later.

Tally of the night

3 boys
3 girls

Lost 1 boy.

Still can have a random #7 but we couldnt tell if it was a pelvis or a skull. I'd be happy with 5 like we have. there is just enough room at the milkbar.

I got freaked out because bee was laying FLAT out and was totally unresponsive ... but shes ok now. up and moving puppies around.

Very Tired. All of us. Tina went to sleep about puppy number 2... shes sick and had an early class this am so I don't really blame her. The last puppy scared me- a dark sack presented, which bee popped and ate. THEN nothing for about 30 minutes and then another breech puppy. I'm still trying to figure out if she ripped the sac off the puppy in the birth canal OR if that was the placenta from another puppy. But it was FULL of liquid so im not sure. I had to really help her get started ( dangled her upside down and drained the fluid and then vigorously rubbed- hope that was right) she sputtered a few times and then started breathing. I'm having to help the last puppy nurse- she was a full hour behind everyone else and was behind the learning curve. Bee is so preoccupied with the others that her last little girl needs some extra help. I expressed a little milk onto a finger tip and after a few minutes of that shes actually able to stay latched on to bee.

I'm going to shower ( i'm covered in puppy gunk) and change her bedding and try to get a little sleep. I'll check on the last little girl a few times. . . I think the others have grown since birth already ( not really, but one fatty stays attached to the nipple and randomly sucks in his sleep. )

More pictures tomorrow.

Congrats on the new babies! Get some rest but keep an eye on that last one!

We had a litter of 7 and all seemed to be going well and then one started gasping for air at a few hours old, then passed away later. It seemed that one had trouble nursing and staying warm from the get- go. We had a heating pad for it and everything. My hubby tried everything to save him, but sometimes it's not meant to be.

Congratulations on the pups!

Failure to thrive is not unusual in pups as well as chickens!

The last litter I had, on the last puppy, mom was just too tired so she asked me to help pull it by coming over to me and putting her butt in my face (I was snoozing at the time as it was 1:00 am) LOL! The pup was a runt and had a rough go for a while. We ended up keeping her, which was a good thing, as the puppy had developement problems and developed arthritis in her upper knee bones. She's had surgery to try to help, end result is she cannot sit because her rear legs will not bend very far. Had mother nature been allowed to take her course, this puppy would probably have died, and not have had to suffer her back legs. (ps, parents had excellent hip ratings and this puppies hips are also good (-xrayed) her problem was in her knees.

The mom dog was, well she's a B****. She laid on one and killed it even with guard rails, the other she bit it's head and flung it out of the box (puncturing it's skull) that was already 3K we just lost!!! We pulled all the puppies after that and hand fed them all from one week old. I had to buy pet milk by the case ($$$$), to feed 5 hungry mastiffs! I stopped breeding her after that.

I'm so glad they are finally here. hubby made me go to bed before the pics were posted last night, "but honey Bee is having her pups I can't go to bed." You will of course keep us updated with lots of pics.
