Before we get too attached- Roo or hen?

I have several Speckled Sussex chicks that are about 5 weeks old and every time I try to look them over to sex them, my opinion changes. I think you gotta give it some time yet. Nothing is really screaming 'roo' to me.

Well I'm going to rehome my EE whom was just renamed from Big Momma to Big Poppa. I will try to get a new hen (type?) this weekend when I drop off big poppa, just hoping something I like close in age to the others. Since my girls are seven was I'm thinking anything 5-9 weeks should fit into the flock ok? Does that seem right? I will give the speckled Sussex another week or two since he/she is the favorite of the kids. I hope I can get another EE, I really wanted the color variety for the kids. I'll KUP about the sex of the SS in the next few weeks. Thanks everyone.

ther combs do seem pretty big!! i would be thinging that its a rooster, but like you said leave it another while nd time will tell 4 sure :)

Well he/she has some time. I'm not rushing it because I love the coloring, although for the runt it has guts. Well now it's not the runt. I rehomed big momma (video of my blue EE crowing in another thread) and picked up 2 pullet ameraucanas last night. Once I got them home I was shocked at the size difference for birds that were only supposed to be two weeks apart. They are getting bullied by my two BR so I'm on watch. Im officially labeled crazy by my family. I returned one and came home with two. Lol. Now the count is at 8.
