Begging for helps with cats

WOW!!!

After I told the town that the whole situation was their fault and I couldn't pay my city taxes because I've spent 825$ for the cats + now have to buy the cage and the fees to drop the cats at the shelter, they now tell me that the animal control will call me to install cages!!!!!!!

This is literally a miracle.
I'm so happy I could cry.

I was about to bring them to justice. The last email I sent to them, I had CCed some local TV shows, reporters, police, animal shelters, vetenerians, etc.
I guess they started to feel stupid at some point.

This has been going on since May. I lost 2/3 of my garden crops.

Wow.. I am very happy.
Thanks all for you answers. Of COURSE drowning was the last resort on earth. I would prefer to cut the jugular - like for chickens - but I don't know how to do this with an aggressive cat.

I know I couldn't kill them...well, unless they starting harming my own animals. I had a predator problem a few years ago and contacted my local animal control to borrow a trap. He didn't have one large enough so I told him that means the last thing left for me to do was to start shooting. He smiled, shrugged and wished me the best. They weren't domestic pets though. If you were to state that's the last resort...one might think they'll have to do something whether they want to or not or tell you to go for it.
Apparently, neither are these. They seem to be feral cats. While cats are domesticated to some extent, these are not anyone's pets. They have been abandoned and left to starve.

Drowning is not an acceptable way of dealing with these cats. If your chickens deserve to be culled quickly and humanely so do these cats. I truly hope that for sake of these cats and your morals you find another way of dealing with them.
You are right - it is less than acceptable. But as I stated before, if the OP had NO other options, it's still faster and probably less painful than starving to death or dying from disease such as distemper (although that does take them within a few days and will get rid of them quite quickly) or rabies. Please don't judge someone else's "morals" unless you have a constructive suggestion.

OP - Sounds like you finally are getting some help! Sometimes the right motivation (like bad publicity) can have great results! Wishing you the best.

Wow......this post makes me really sad. Killing animals by drowning them and poisoning them is no way to go out. There are more humane ways of dealing with animals. It's not the cats fault that they were brought into a house by stupid people. Sometimes people like that take peoples pet animals and keep them. I Would just catch them in a live trap and turn them into a shelter. The thought of drowning is really terrible. Poisoning is terrible painful death. Please don't have them suffer like that.

And what would you suggest? OP doesn't have a gun or access to one. They would be charged for dropping off the animals at a shelter - more than they could afford. What's your next suggestion? Please - read the whole thread before judging and then only if you have a better idea.

The whole situation is sad, however, even taking them to an animal shelter is little chance of getting them to become loving pets. They're feral and wreaking havoc for the OP and they should not have to pay the relinquish fees to the shelter for cats that were never theirs to begin with. They were reaching out for alternative suggestions.

Well, having chickens killed by cats is probably not very fun for them either, have you thought about that part?
I also feed wild birds. Last friday a cat caught a blue jay at me feeding station. Imagine your kids watching the beautiful bird and then WHAM!! Caught in midair by a starving cat. No fun.
Where I live, there is a fee when we want to bring animals to the shelter :( This is the reason why it was hard for me to do. Being that the cage is 100$ plus tax, and that I'd have to pay the fee 15 times, I just couldn't afford it :( I am already 825$ into this ;(

It's incredible that the town finally moved!!!! My dogs will run free for the first time since MAY!! May, can you imagine??? I have a cocker spaniel and a husky. I used to throw balls and the husky would retrieve them. No longer possible with 15 cats on the lawn, the dog would run after them and then I would be up all night chasing after my dog.

They'll be so happy to run free again!!! And the chickens too!!!!! I won't smell the awful male (not spayed of course) urine on my porch when I come home!! I will be able to compost!!!!! And process my chickens that are getting too old, all the rooster crow in the morning and they start to fight, they are 4 months old. It's more than time to cull.

This is a happy day for me. The happiest since may.

Here is a preview of the awful conditions where the cats live at the moment.

There is one on top of the pile of garbage:

Here is what I found about 4-5 times a day in my garden, ALL SUMMER LONG:

Cat on attack mode, my dog CHAINED in my own yard (2 cats in this pic actually):

Cats near my coop:

And yet another one:

And a different one (these were all taken THE SAME DAY and it's three different cats):

Wow, I will gain back access to my own property. I will stop hearing cat fights at night. This will improve my life 50000%!!!

Thanks to those who understood and supported me :) Sorry to offend the others, you just can't imagine what it's like to deal with 40 cats alone. No help from police, the township, the animal control.. Imagine being scared for your kids, your dogs, your cat, your chicks. Eating food from a garden infested with cat poop.. Having 1-2 stray cat is a lot different from 40. There was 40 cats during the summer days. Now it's reduced a little bit, to around 15-20. There are usually at least 10 at a time on my property.

I have a major back problem since may. I had started to bring the dog to pee with a leash, otherwise she would run after the cats. Even on her chain, she would break off her collar and run after them. So the first night we go out with the leash it's after dark. I put my foot on the first step to walk down the porch and BANG, she sees a cat in the dark - that I didn't see - and makes a run for it. Result - I was propelled down the stairs in a split second and then laying on the concrete asking Wow, what happened.. And since then, I've been seeing an osteopath to fix my hurting back! She is used to pulling sleds, to pulling me down the 6 stairs was nothing for her hehehe.

Oh, so happy. I will never be able to sleep. I will video the first time my dogs run free again!! They will be happy, since may they are tied up or taking walks/run on leash with me.

I did read the whole thing, poisioning animals and drowning them is sort of a terrible thing to do. There are tons of programs out there that can take away feral cats. I am very glad that they have decided to help her, it would have been terrible for her yo go at this alone. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I have first hand seen poisioning in cats and it's a terrible death. I gave my suggestion in my post earlier, maybe I am not the one who needs to read the whole posts.

There is no need to attack me just because I said it was inhumane. Unfortunately chickens are attacked by everything, I have no control over that. This lady has no control over what happened with all the cats, I totally understand that. There are programs and shelters that can euthanized them better than that. I am glad she is finally getting help. Cat poop/ pee is nasty, I am happy she's finally getting help.

I did read your suggestion - it was to trap and take them to a shelter. OP had already said that they would have to pay to leave them there, and she was dealing with 15-20 cats, so that was cost prohibitive. I agree that poisoning is a terrible way for an animal to die, and I never once mentioned that as an option. In the first post, OP said that no one - not law enforcement, animal control or ASPCA would help after numerous complaints about these cats. She also did not have access to a gun, and doesn't know of anyone who does. It seemed the options were limited. But it's all a moot point now anyway, isn't it? OP is getting the help needed to rid the cats from her place, and they will either be euthanizes, or possibly rehomed if there is any hope for any of them to do that. Personally, I would never be able to drown a cat either. I don't think. But then, I do have access to firearms and know how to use them and I have a husband who would also be willing to dispose of that many sick, starving feral cats. I will say it again, though - drowning would certainly be a faster, more pleasant death than starving to death or dying from disease. I will not argue with you any more about this. I understand your position and respect it.
