I hope you are all doing well. Its very crazy weather here right now!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens and have never had chickens. I am coming here to see what chickens would work best where I am.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently zero.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I want to get Rhode Island Reds, Australorp, or any other good beginner chicken with high egg production that is cold tolerant. I am thinking of getting 10 and giving some to my father. I would be keeping 5 or 6.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
It interests me because I like to raise my own food and learn. I am told I will get tasty eggs and be able to make compost out of droppings.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I garden (teaching myself), learning to sing/play piano, fishing, metaphysical stuff, other stuff I find interesting. I love learning !
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a very big Italian/Irish family who almost all live in Colorado. I am the middle of five children. In my household there is me, my boyfriend (who always goes along with my schemes), my silkshire terrier (Dexter), our 3 cats (Sweeney, Mrs.Lovett, and Drucilla), our guniea pigs (Norman and Moe), and a crested gecko (Grim). I am currently a Case Worker for Long Term Care Medicaid. I also have my CNA license. I have two bachelor degrees in psychology and criminal justice. I love nature and metaphysical stuff. I want to go back to school for LCSW. I live in Lakewood, Colorado.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was looking around the internet about chickens and I found this place. Figured if I had questions I could post them here.
