I’ve been fairly active on BYC since March, but just realized I never did this myself!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first four chicks in March 2023. 2 Black Australorps and 2 Golden Comets.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Sadly, we’re down to the 2 Australorps. Both Golden Comets ended up feather picking for different reasons, and now live on a literal farm with too many distractions for bum-plucking their friends.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
As another member just put it, I really enjoy the challenge and problem-solving. I’m always striving to make their lives better as I learn. The eggs are pretty incredible too!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’ve just started gardening for food (I’m horrible at it), but I’ve been into landscape gardening for a few years. When I’m not outside, you’ll find me reading, playing video games, attempting to get through our massive board game collection (Everdell anyone?), or reading about chickens. You can tell I’m quite the homebody!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’ve been married to my husband for almost 18 years. He’s my best friend, and I’m very fortunate to have someone to go through all this chicken madness with.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google, of course. Decided to join because I had so many questions!
