Belgian Malines Have Arrived!!!

OMG! Cat's out of the bag! Funky Fowl Farm in B.C., Canada has posted a video of young Malines chicks hatched at Greenfire Farms in Florida! Woo hoo! This is the single comb variety like mine. :) And so it begins.....;)

Thanks Gen9! Have not had much free time lately. Late on pics too. Sorry everybody! Will get some up as soon as I possibly can. Should be some good growth showing for sure. I've seen all my oldest have definitely grown in only 4 days that I was gone. Wow! Can't wait to share them - please be patient folks!

I'm home, but have a houseguest. Took a TON of pics this a.m., but will be a few to several days to comb thru them! Birds are looking great & I got some good advice from Bart on selection of my future breeding stock. :) I imagine my first cull will start in about a month. I will post pics then of dressed carcasses, and noting their ages & weights. Will of course comment on quality of the meals made with them. Exciting stuff!

I sent an e-mail to Bart this morning but havent had a response as yet. Primarily in response to new stock and breed selection of who and what to mate and when. Also on waiting until spring or not. How old are the birds you are going to process for meat? What time is dinner?

My oldest group is now 11 weeks old. I also messaged Bart & awaiting response to same question. What age to process the culls? I'm in no hurry - just want to make sure there is enough meat on that big frame of theirs. Don't want to find out they are just all bones & feathers, lol!
