I just picked up six chicks today. I thought when I was handling one that it had some caked poop but now I realize it is a scab on it’s belly button area. It did not pull off but there was a spot of blood and the area around it doesn’t look great. Like dried poop is around it but not sure it’s that. I’m worried it’s infected. The chick is eating and drinking and acting normally at this point. Is there anything I can put on it? Anything I can do? I’ll add ACV or oregano oil to the water. The vent looks clear.

It sounds like it still has some of the dried umbilical cord attached and if that is the case it's normal. All you have to do is leave it alone and it will eventually fall off. However, can you take a picture of it just so we can for sure rule out infection?

It really looks terrible.

It’s near but up further on like her stomach area.

Good advice from @azygous I would follow her instructions.
Hopefully since the chick is eating/drinking and acting normal, she will continue to do so.

Is she pooping o.k.? It may be the angle of the photo, but the vent looks slightly puckered or swollen. I'd keep watch that this chick is pooping o.k. and her vent is not pasting over.
