Bento Box Fever!

Ichibankan just got new stock in. They have a lot more items then they did a few days ago. They have the Clickity Click, Putifresh, Tenmari, and Natural collections available. I just ordered 3 boxes + accessories for $20, including shipping.

I can't wait!

I had no idea what you gals were talking about until I read "most" of this thread. I couldn't take the time to read them all as I had to dash off to IchibanKan on line and purchase one for my sis who lives in Florida. Her b/d is the end of this month and it is always hard to find unique things for her. she takes her lunch to her business...master dog groomer..each day so I thought this would be ideal! Thanks again to my byc friends

I got her the silverware, the two tiered box, strap and the insulated bag. I hope she is thrilled.

Yaay! Make sure she knows that the tiered boxes do NOT seal tight, like Tupperware. You must at least have a strap, and the drawstring bags that come with many sets work great because you can snug the bag up really tight around the boxes.

I think I'm making progress on getting the kids to go this direction!

Today, I sent teriyaki chicken that I "wrapped" in sticky rice and rolled in toasted sesame seeds, along with a side of homemade teriyaki sauce. I'll see what they thought of it when they get home from school.

When I first showed this to my daughter (10.5) she said "no way" but has since come home several times saying how she saw this or that child with Bento Boxes.

Anyway, my question. . . . I'm looking at things at IchibanKan and think she'd most like the blue Tenmari and my son (13) would most like the Simple Modern Design. However, since some of these are made in China, I do have some concerns about what else might be contained in the plastics.

But, that aside, can any of you take a look on your containers and let me know what number is in the recycle triangle on the bottom?

Thanks as I was not aware of the no-seal. I did get the strap and pouch. I am having them shipped here to look them over first. I just might get my dh one...now I didn't see one that is large?? Like the ones in the photos you gals posted for your men...what are they called?

Ozark hen: It is called Zojirushi Mr.Bento. You can get it on amazon for about $45.00-50.00. They are a little pricey but worth every penny in my opinion

My DH loves his and it seals up really well.

Backyard Buddies: Good question. I just looked through all of our boxes that are here and none of them have a recycling code. The ones that do have info on the bottoms all say that they were made in Japan. I know that Japanese plastics are free from the problematic chemicals that are all over the news recently. They banned them quite a while back. Also, if I am not mistaken, it is the clear plastics that you have to worry about, not so much the opaque ones. (Could be wrong on that...) Most bento boxes are not meant to be heated, and should not be put in the microwave. Also, as dishwashers are not common in Japan, most boxes are not dishwasher safe. I always handwash mine. Anyway, now I am off to do some research on this. Thank you for bringing it up

( I really really want one!!) I have not ordered from Ichibankan YET, but if you are not looking to spend so much, see if you can find a larger 2 tiered box. Here is the rule of thumb as far as sizing:

child 3-5 years: 400ml
child 6-8 years: 500ml
child 9-11 and women: 600ml
men: 900ml

Hopefully they list the volumes of each box on that site- it makes it much easier!!

Looks like the clickety click ones are made in China. I always cool food down before putting food in the boxes and I don't put them in the microwave even though it says the bottoms can be. I hand wash as well.
