Holy cow did this thread disappear or what?!?!?

Tomorrow I'm sending Bella to school with some veggie gyoza (mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, celery, etc.), fried rice, carrots, and a couple of mini meatballs.

My son is going through a "I want hot lunch" phase. He got over his "I want to ride the bus" phase. I'm hoping this will pass too. I did get a new camera though so I will be able to post pictures soon!

Bella did that for about two weeks, which was OK since I was not home much after Mom's surgery anyway. But last night I forgot to make her lunch for today, and this morning she said, "Mom--why do I not have a lunchbox?" So we're back on track, I hope.

Ladies, on behalf of all my kamaʻaina (long time resident) friends here in Hawaii, allow me to set you straight. Bento boxes REQUIRE spam musubi, shoyu (soy sauce), and perhaps a stick of chicken yakatori. Your haole-fied creations are the equivalent of serving mash potatoes on a plate lunch! Auwe.

having been born in yokohama and living in japan for 18 years, my mother of japanese decent NEVER made me spam musubi. i do have slices of spam with rice, and eggs over easy every weekend, though. and if i have no meat available, it's spam in my yummy fried rice. my son and i are definitely a fan of spam. crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. yum yum.

btw, yakitori is spelled with two "i"s.
