Best bedding for wet muddy run

Pics
My run will be filled with pea gravel and straw on top of it, they will free range when I get home from work and can watch them and their coop will be straw on top of the linoleum floor (brand new coop so I will try to preserve as my other has to be torn down). Outside the coop about 3 feet will also be gravel....will help with predators. Winter time I plan to put 2 bales of straw high all around the run so they can still go into the run during the winter months. I have great plans....hope it all works out :) 32 tweens in my garage have to get moved soon :)

The floor of my run is currently dirt mixed with straw that the chickens are always kicking out of the coop. We live in a humid climate that gets lots of rain. A majority of the year it is wet/ muddy and mixed with the poop it’s just terrible. I rake everything out twice a week (as long as the weather permits). I wanted to switch to sand but have heard mixed reviews. I’d also have to buy bagged sand from an home improvement store (no truck to buy bulk) and I don’t think places such as Home Depot sell the correct kind of sand for chickens. Any other ideas of what I could use?
I get my sand at Lowe's or Home Depot. Get the Quickcrete All purpose sand. It's perfect!

Hey @Hessk, looking back over this thread I realized it's now a couple of years old. Holy Cow (Holy chicken?) does the time ever fly! There's been a lot of good advice and some interesting suggestions along the way. Did any of it pan out for your muddy run? It would be neat to see what worked, what didn't & how your birds are faring, these days.
